URZZZZ Would be fine as a backup LB next season but shouldn’t be playing any further forward, doesn’t offer enough as a midfielder

2 goals and 2 assists in 12 starts, some of which at LB. Started as a winger. Good corners. :|

I just don’t think he’s quick enough/skilful enough to start on one of the flanks

I agree he has a fantastic cross on him, but under Bowen, how many times have we actually scored a goal from a header from a cross excluding set pieces, can’t think of many at all. If we’re thinking of adapting our style to utilising our wingers and getting crosses in the box, then he could perhaps do a job but currently, our game plan is very much focused playing narrowly which makes Obita look ineffective and redundant

You don't need pace to cross. I think you're harsh on him. At the moment we basically have no specialist wingers so of course we aren't set up to put crosses in and capitalise on them.

That's one of the major issues we need to fix to give us options next season.

Old Man Andrews Oh I think Moore is gone, we have to cash in on him before his value drops further. Huge amount off the wage bill too. Puscas and Swift are two others I expect to see leave this summer. We are too top heavy imo and could cash in/recoup whatever we paid. Swift we obviously don't want to lose but I think there will be a few Prem clubs that will come in for him.

Sorry OMA have to disagree. If Moore and Swift go;we are screwed.

Not at all. Both would command big fees that can be reinvested in younger, cheaper talent. Moore has proven he can be reasonably easily replaced when he has been out and we have Ejaria and Olise in the squad already and we can buy a Swift replacement with the hefty fee we'd get for him.

Would like us to follow a similar model to the one Brentford have. Buy young lower league talent at an affordable fee and then sell on for huge profit.

Also does it actually matter if its a header or not?

Can't name them off the top of my head (been a while) but I think he has some assists from crosses? Can remember the Forest one, not sure if some more

Doesn't really matter if it's from a pull back, flat drill across the area, diagonal pass into the box, side foot to be thumped from the edge of the area or loose rebound off a shot.

If it goes in it's still a goal.

Westwood52 I have never been a huge fan of Obita;however I suspect he is not one of the best paid players in the squad. He may not be one of the most physical LB s in the division;but do feel he can make a significant contribution .He is one of the best crosses of the ball and is genuinely left footed.I don’t see Richards improving that much and don’t think this is his level.I would keep Obita.

Richards has improved considerably this season & is only going to get better. I’d put them on a par right now but Obita would be a good back-up option. Bowen might already know that which is why he’s trying Obita further up the field?

well big day today for the OoCs and we should get some indication later as to who definitely won't be staying on

Guessing Miazga, Obita, Gunter and GMac will be extended to the end of the season along with Osho. We should hold some sort of mini celebration that the waster Popa is finally off our books.

Remember the days when there were people on here defending Popa? And some even picking him to play..

Well there you go, he's gone. Horrible to see the club releasing players who have been here 15+ years and still have something to offer while players like Aluko etc are still stealing a wage. Sign of what a mess the club is in. Feel a little less guilty about opting for the ST refund now.

Definitely still has something to offer. The best assist record of any of our full backs this season (better than Yids as he has had less game time than Yiadom but with as many goals/assists). It appears the club had a deal in place but decided to withdraw it.
A sad end for one of very best Academy boys.

Personally do not think he’s looked the same since returning from injury, still sad to see him leave though and really hope he finds a club and kicks on again (as long as he does not come back to haunt Reading).

Obita, Blackett and Gunter are all good enough to play at this level still. I think Richards is probably our best option at left back, but only just. Shows what dire straits we must be in financially.

Well yeah. Over 200% of income in wages.

Gunter had to be on around £20k a week given he was a long term fixture at the club having been signed when we wanted to be PL and last contract renewal when we had promotion aspirations.

You can't pay that for a back up RB, it's insane. And Yiadom is clearly better.

Obita likely to be on less, but still a wedge and I think you're being generous saying he's good enough for this level still.

Blackett's ok but not a lot more - great on his day, also awful on an off day, but he wanted away didn't he, so moot point.

Don't think there's any serious merit in an argument that any of them should have been offered a big enough contract to get them to stay.

The clubs needs a consistent, reliable left-back. Unfortunately Obita's injuries mean that isn't him.

Should have bought one years ago rather than throw endless money at wingers.

Blackett chose not to stay. Neither Gunter nor Obita would be first choice selections on the team sheet next season.
