genome Will be interested to see how they do now, given many (including myself) were harping about him joining us a while ago

He's a top manager

He isn't, otherwise he would be in a job with a top team and not constantly failing at every job he's been at.

Your lack of football knowledge has yet again become apparent.

I'll be honest Genome. Houghton's football always bored the sh1t out of me. I didn't want him here. We've always needed someone younger with fresh ideas and a bit of a track record. I think the football his teams play is old and obselete. Been out he game a while as well. He will probably do ok with his long ball rubbish.

Nor me - he's obviously been waiting for the Prem job or top championship job that never came.

He inherited a decent squad at Brighton (albeit under performing) and got lucky, messed up certain promotion in first season and nearly repeated it the following year. His way has always been ultra defensive and Brighton fans were generally glad to see the back of him when they nearly managed to get relegated having been safe in Jan. As above, his style and tactics belong in a previous era.

It’s interesting as Forest thought they’d hit the jackpot with Lamouchi and now they’re going back to a more old school type like O’Neill who they binned before

They are a bit of a basket case really.

In his four full seasons in the Championship, Hughton has finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

Baffling that anyone wouldn't rate him.

He's not a top manager though. If he was he would be managing a top team in the Premier league

I don't think hes

Sorry I didn't realise that to be a top manager you had to finish top 4 in the 2nd division

What about in the Premier league? He is an okay manager but top? He's not even in that league.

In the last few years since he was in the EFL the football has changed. Martin o Neill esque football is dead and that's apparent by his recent failures. There's more quality foreign managers, more pressing and more on the deck. It's regression for them...not progression. They will finish mid table in a turgid season at best.

I wasn't suggesting he should manage Germany or Real Madrid

So he isn't a top manager then

He's a top manager at Championship level. Surely you're not that slow that you don't understand that?

Has Hughton taken a team in a mess and turned it into a good team, or has he generally been a ‘finisher’- make a decent team a bit better ?

Brighton were struggling in/near the relegation zone when he took over from memory.

Of course I understand that. But he isn't a top manager at the top level which was what Ian alluded to.

One of his promotions took Brighton from about 20th to the PL.
