Your first game watching Reading FC

Well it’s p***ing down,and cant face work.What was your first ever game as a spectator and first ever Reading game ?
My first ever game was Cardiff versus Man United at the old Ninian Park with my Dad.I had to stand and hated it.We left before the end.My first Reading game was midweek against Portsmouth.I think my Dads work place must have given him tickets as we had seats.It was so long ago,early sixties;that Pompey had Jimmy Dickinson and I think Ron Saunders.The only Reading player I can remember was Whitehouse ?Around that time my Uncle took me to see the Spurs Double team;he used to service the players cars,and use to get lots of free tickets.While my mates at school often use to go to Elm Park,I only joined them now and then.Deffo went to see Reading V Man City at a packed Elm Park

Preston at Home Oct 1982. As I remember we were 2-0 up and lost 3-2 but somehow managed to get hooked

My son was desperate to go and we got a seat right behind the goal

When we went 0-2 down to Boro it looked like a long, hard season

I think pulling back to 2-2 and winning 3-2 was remarkable, and,
daft though it may sound, I think it saved our season

First Reading game was a 1-0 home win against Tranmere in Division 4 in 1984.

First game was the England Scotland Schoolboys International that Scotland won 5-4. The only thing I can remember of the game is scummer Paul Rideout scoring from 40yds.

First live game was the 0 - 1 defeat to Boro in the League Cup in 1998 (5th Round).

My first ever live game was November 71. Wolves 5 Arsenal 1. It was quite some game.
First live Reading game was the day of the protest over the proposed merger of the two clubs. May 83 at the Manor Ground. We won 2-1 and King Kerry scored but we still got relegated back to the old fourth division.

Not 100% sure when and who, but it was back in the days of the early 1970s power cuts and weird kick-offtimes.
Probably Aldershot, Bradford, Exeter or someone..the team comprised the likes of Henderson, Carnaby, Death, Freeman, Alleyne, Habbin etc.
Some great games, sometimes played out on a virtually grassless pitch.

1995 Play Off Final at Wembley v Bolton for both.

I'd only previously seen 30 minutes of the second leg against Tranmere on TV for Reading, but I'd been following the results for about six months.

Thinking about it, if it wasn't for the McGhee controversy I doubt I'd have gone past a passing interest in results. My life would be very different.

First game was Wycombe v Watford on Boxing Day ‘97. Finished 0-0 and the fondest memory was being very cold standing behind the goal.

First Reading game was against Northampton in April ‘99. We lost 0-1; it was absolutely dire but I fell in love with RFC and I’ve been a STH ever since.

I was at that England Schoolboys game too - am pretty sure it's famous for Rideout being the only player to score a hat-trick at Wembley and be on the losing side, or something along those lines!

lost 6-1 to Palace @ Elm Park. Trained with an RFC coach before the game as part of some day out organised by Charvil youth centre.

Don't remember much about the football, just remember the abuse aimed at us by some drunk bloke.
