So you’re saying all those years we have been singing “We’ve got THE record, 106”

We were wrong?

Try looking up the difference between “a” and “the”

We didn’t concede a goal for a long time and we won 13 games on the trot and we got 106 points

Is a shit chant

I may be mistaken but don't we also have the most championship hattricks scored? We have 11 since the league was formed and I think next is Norwich with 10?

Get out. Championship name change specific records?

Football didn't start with the PL and it certainly didn't start with a tier two rebrand.

Lastly on the debate about whether we have played anybody much, 3 of the teams make up the bottom 3 if you disregard the penalised Sheff Wednesday.

True, dat, but six games in and defeat to us is a major factor in them being low in the table

We've also played sixth place Watford, (sixth with a game in hand) and could go join second tonight. And 9th-placed Boro who have only lost one game (unluckily) 1-0 to Waford, and have now beaten Bristol.

Cardiff are a bit dull, but they could be top six if they win tonight (despite losing to us)

Cardiff are the classic dull Championship team that could do well. Organised, hard working and dull. See also WBA.

Late to the thread, but perhaps the RB position might be a “horses for courses” decision. Play Esteves at home and against “lesser” teams, but have Holmes in when it’s likely to be a more physical and/or attritional opponent such as Cardiff or Millwall?

Of course, all irrelevant when Yiadom is fit anyway.

Nah, Esteves will play 90 games for RFC this season

Really? We have Olise and Ejaria.

Hardly championship cloggers.

To be fair, they have Lee Tomlin

The opposite of hard working

SWLR Seen Joao's goal - absolute class. First touch, turn and strength = world class, defenders did nothing wrong. Goal of the Season contender... anyone can smack a ball in front 30 yards, few can do that

Couldn't agree more.

In my view, the biggest difference between the 1st and 2nd tiers is the quality of the strikers, which probably accounts for the current disparity in scoring rate. Too much of that from Joao and we'll be struggling to keep him in January. Kane would have been delighted with the control and finish that separated a plucky bunch of tryers and table toppers having an off night, which is how tight the margins often are but, the top teams have the extra quality and usually find a way.

If only for a heavy fixture list now skewed by Sky having sufficient egg on it's face to put us in front of their cameras twice in 8 days, we will surely see a tweak or two come Saturday. What they turn out to be should tell us quite a lot about how management see the side progressing but having got the basics sorted in defence, I see a lot more to come from a talented offensive four of their choice,

Nameless Another cord we hold (I think) is that of worst record in the FA cup.
We have lost more FA cup games than any other team apparantly...

Most FA Cup goals conceded: 539: Aston Villa
Highest FA Cup goal difference: +305: Aston Villa
Most FA Cup games played: 455: Arsenal
Most FA Cup games won: 251: Manchester United
Most FA Cup games lost: 130: Notts County <<<<<<<<<<<<<,
Most FA Cup games drawn: 103: Arsenal

But Ian will know different

Very late to the thread (red card?) and not being Ian - but some developments on this record.

Reading and Notts Co both first entered the FA Cup in 1877. Notts won it in 1894 therefore Reading have been eliminated more times than any other League club as we haven;t ever won it. Furthermore, Notts are no longer a league club so that means at the moment it's ours - yippee.

Marlow have entered every single year since 1871 so they should hold most FA Cup defeats for ANY club. One of Reading's eliminations wasn't a defeat but a withdrawal v Marlow in 1882 (?) - so that's why Notts may have got the nod in the record book. AND YET just this weekend (2020) Notts withdrew from their cup tie v King's Lynn

Some FA Cup databases are not all they're cracked up to be - witness last month one fan claiming a hat-trick of unrecorded goals in a 6-0 Reading win in 1893 that the FA had as 3-0.

On a couple more records:
- we still hold the EFL record for longest time without conceding - Death's record from 1979 - though Van der Saar has the all-comers and PL record
- I think we hold longest unbeaten run in the second tier - of 34 games, jointly with Liverpool

Guess Notts County refers to most games lost by a team in the Football League at the time. As they joined league on formation in 1888, and were relegated in 2019, less one year they won it = 130 losses. HTH

Not sure that 130 is right (or it’s an old statistic)

Basically

The FACup began in 1871/72, 149 “years” ago

There have been 139 competitions played since (no competitions were held in 1915/16, 1916/17, 1917/18, 1918/19, 1939/40, 1940/41, 1941/42, 1942/43, 1943/44, 1944/45 (10 “years” in total))

Notts County (and Reading) first entered in 1877/78 (in the 7th competition) and therefore have competed in 133 competitions

Reading withdrew in 1882 and therefore have only competed (and lost) in 132 competitions

Notts County won the competition in 1894 and have therefore also lost in 132 competitions (though their withdrawal this season now means they have only lost in 131 competitions

Therefore Reading can be proud  to say they have lost in the FA Cup more times than any other league side.

We competed in 133 - got through three rounds into the last 14 (sic) then withdrew. Imagine the rage today.

Actually, no, there would be posters saying got to concentrate on the league - it's only 38 years away.
