tidus_mi2 I've been a Reading fan since Pardew so for permanent managers I've had:

Pardew
Coppell
Rodgers
McDermott
Adkins
Clarke
McDermott v2
Stam
Gomes
Bowen
Paunovic

So 11 for me. Surprised I got that all off memory.

Same plus mcghee

It’s funny how 2 out of our 4 best managers since I’ve been supporting Reading, are absolutely hated by the fanbase...McGhee & Pards. Traitors but if you isolate their time at the club, they did a lot. Pards started the upwards trajectory when we were heading for the 4th tier. Curo & Butts what a combo.

McGhee was my first...I was like this is great, this team play some great football and always seem to win.

Then I experienced the Bullivant and Burns years!

McGhee was the start of our upwards trajectory imho.

That was when we started to look upwards to dreams unknown in Reading.

Without doubt. He broke the mould. In the few seasons of second tier football prior to him we had always struggled. He changed that and had us challenging in 1994/5.

Despite the Leicester City treachery, I still hold a bit of affection for the guy.

That, and Gilksies testimonial match at Elm Park

Yeah I am talking s##t I am only Johnstone (briefly) in front of you. However there is no mention of Henderson 59 days and Wallbanks 104 days.I can vaguely remember Henderson as a player.I assume he was a temp while the Board sorted something out.Wallbanks was interesting though. He was the physio, but 3 months odd is quite a tenure not to be counted.Anybody know the story behind this ? Filling in again ?Johnstone was manager for close on 8 years more enlightened times ?Maurice Evans tenure close to 7 years.

Johnston apparently longest serving of the lot.

Ray Hnederson was coach and applied for the job but Mansell got it. When Mansell was sacked they took an age appointing Hurley and Jimmy Wallbanks did quite well in the meantime. If you;re counting caretkers I think Eddie Nzidewicki and John Haselden also had a go. John Gorman too after Burns? Not sure.

To be honest, where I sit, it seems like everyone around me is a manager.

Mine looks something like this. Started as a kid with Porterfield, watched five whole games the first season, then it went down to maybe one or two a season after that. Last match at the Mad Stad was against Notts Forest when Sidwell was on fire, saw one Coppell game at the Vetch in the FA cup replay (Swansea were fourth division at the time and Reading barely managed to beat them), one McDermott game at Preston. Doesn't help when you live 1/3rd of the way around the world.

Football and the players we had at the club under Mcgee was just fantastic. The football delivered in that period was just sublime. Never looked like losing.

I spent many an afternoon with Ian Branfoot and family as they lived in Tadley and i was in his daughters class at school. I got to spend a day release at the club in 86 i think it was to see how the club operated for a school project. Ian picked me up outside the Hurst School. That day, the team were training on the concrete car park behind the south bank. Madness.

26 I think (excluding caretakers). Everyone from Ted Drake onwards.

Funny (??) how the terms seem to have got shorter and shorter over the years.
