From the outside looking in it looks bizarre and it is technically sexual assault. I would like to know more about the relationship between the two players though before passing judgement fully. Is there a long standing, banterous relationship there? Has Paterson done this before to Fisher and it is an ongoing gag etc.

Listened to a Spanish football journalist earlier who said its interesting how different the story is being reported over there as it is basically discussed as skullduggery by the English FA. They see it that our FA have banned an Atletico player to miss 10 important weeks for them and he returns just in time for an important England game

That's the headline, but there's a bit more to it than that. There was a long exchange of text messages over a period of time where Trippier's mate made it clear he was placing a series of bets on the transfer, and that he was seeking assurances and updates from Tripper over a few weeks that the transfer would happen.

The ban might be harsh, but it should have been obvious to Trippier what was happening.

yeah I do agree that the texts made it clear they were waiting for news so they could bet (but mainly just hearing big news as they are his mates and he is leaving the country).

Its an odd one and I read a good article on it the other day by Barry Glendenning basically just saying the rule is really just in place to protect bookies, and if someone was leaving the country for a job then they would tell their mates, so they should not tell them now? what about his wife telling her family and friends? Should he keep it a secret from his wife until its all done? if you move abroad you are going to tell a bunch of people, you can't really be held responsibly for what they do, much better for the bookies to just not have these kind of stupid bets.
