Pepe the Horseman If Esteves was called Tom Evans, had a short back and sides and was born in Reading, I think everyone would agree with you.

I dunno
Sounds a bit Welsh to me

We've had enough of welshmen at RB for a while I'd say.

Just the Welsh in general I’d say. Gunter Bowen church hrk not had a decent one since Ady.

Excellent result and especially good to come back from that early goal. Several players were off the pace at the start and it was a pretty poor goal to concede.

We stayed calm and played the normal way keeping hold of it as much as possible. I always felt we were going to get back into the game, although maybe not to win it.

Thought Swift made a difference but it seemed, maybe due to his presence, that Laurent was a bit further forward than normal. Whatever the reason I thought they cut through us far too easily and I was very worried during the last ten minutes.

If we are to resist other teams when they go all out attack, I think we need more backbone in midfield. Or at least to be able to reinforce it when needed. I liked the subs made although they could have happened much earlier.

Joao outstanding
Rafael with some crucial saves.

Ref picky but that suits us

Great result. Looking forward to the next one now.

Definitely don’t want to put a downer on this at all.

But both goals were pretty much individual utter excellence. 1st goal amazing strength and finishing ability. 2nd goal wtf where did that come from.

Bounced back from losing, good performance against an inform team at home. Deserved victory overall.

Great pass from Mac.

Aluko shining again.

Rafa a good save.

Laurent phenomenal again.

I'm a tiny bit worried about Laurent

That's the second time recently he's tried the same intercept and break
and it's gone wrong. I love him to bits, great player, but as he moves forward
more and more we are losing our central solidness.

I also worry about the fact that in 9/10 games we start so slowly.

I've been saying for ages that someone will go 3-0/4-0 up
against us before we start to play (eg Brentford)

We look a FAR better side when we play on the front foot

Agree re Laurent as per my post above. I feel he is an absolutely critical player for us. Just need him to stay a bit deeper and keep breaking up attacks

Bristol Paul
andrew1957
Hound Excellent performance against a solid team

Joao is a notch above this level, two great goals. Tom Mc has come back from his Preston horror show with a couple of superb performances. Rafael good again

9 Joao
8 McIntyre Rafael Morrison Laurent
7 Richards Aluko Esteves Baldock Olise
6 Swift Ejaria Semedo Holmes

+1 - Pretty much exactly as I saw it. No RFC player had a poor game. Joao outstanding again. If he keeps fit we have a real chance of promotion.

Huddersfield commentators thought Swift was great and were relieved when he went off. Played very well given how long he's been out. Would give Ejaria a 7 as well, thought he looked far more dangerous, especially second half

Unbelievably Dellor and Gooding were bemoaning our lack of a freekick specialist during the early part of the game. They seem to have totally forgotten about Swift's abilities!

Crowbar6753
Spot on match summary Snowflake, maybe would have given Swift a 6, he did ok but nothing of real note to warrant a 7.

Putting a great freekick right onto the head of Holmes (only denied by a fantastic save) in first half stoppage time?

Gunter and HRK were both shortlisted for POTS on occasion. Gunter in particular was a very good player at this level.

Thought it was a really good performance myself, although a little sluggish to start. Huddersfield didn't really have much to scare us with, at half time I said we'd win it if we came out with a bit more hunger and thats exactly what we did, good work Pauno.

Joao obviously the standout player. Was a little concerned about Holmes at times and would have considered taking him off after his yellow, the ref was picky as hell and Holmes seemed a little flat footed and tired in the second half.

Overall this squad is clearly good enough for a playoff finish. Getting Meite back or Puscas to come back and actually be a striker like we know he is capable of being and we've got it well and truly covered. Happy times

We need more picky refs. They are perfect for us. We are outmuscled easily if the refs allow it

And should we go up (!) Prem refs will be fine as they tend to be pickier still

My only issue about HRK is that he kept blabbing about how he had interest from clubs all over the world and how he could earn £200,000 a week in China and he ended up in fcuking Smethwick.

I remember he also kept going on about how he scored 5 goals in the premiership. Didn’t mention anything about the fact he’d scored less in the championship The following season.

Gunter was a perfectly decent right back for us. HRK underachieved with us but he still played a big part in our greatest ever FA Cup run.He is ex Academy and has played a good number of games in the top flight, scored a worldy in the quarter finals of a major tournament and played in a semi final of that event. Not a bad career for an Academy lad.

Simon Church scored his share of goals in our promotion winning season and didn’t let the club down at any stage. He was a good lad.
Dangerous Dave Edwards was a poor signing but at least he encouraged Josh Laurent to join us.

This thread seems to have turned into a defence of Welsh players at Reading.

Probably forgotten, I'm sure, but I started this with a light hearted comment (an attempt at humour) after Pepe said
"If Esteves was called Tom Evans, had a short back and sides and was born in Reading, I think everyone would agree with you."
And I said - I don't know he sounds a bit Welsh, (referring to him having a very Welsh sounding name in Evans)

Just for the record, I totally agree with Zip and have no issue with any of our Welsh players

I was actually really pleased when we signed Edwards, always was impressed with him when he was at Wolves, but seemed like a shadow of that player when playing for us.
