WestYorksRoyal I just think we've underachieved against a number of lower teams this year but rarely look out of place against the better ones. Brentford away is the only game where a top opposition has looked definitively better than us, and maybe you could add a 45 minute implosion at Bournemouth. But it's against the likes of Millwall, Birmingham, Wycombe and Middlesbrough where results have not been up to scratch.

Which to be honest could almost certainly be said of most teams at the top. And far better to trip up v teams at the bottom than your actual rivals where that point swing really matters.

Afterall, it was beating Saints and West Ham that won us the League last time. Not putting away the teams at the bottom.

This.

Picking Milwall/Boro as where we shouldn't have slipped up are strange choices as they are on the fringes of the play-offs and Milwall have barely lost to a top 6/7 side all season.

The Wycombe result could haunt us esp. given the nature of it but I don't think we would have won the following 3 games without it.

Everyone in the top 6 have dropped points where they shouldn't:

Norwich lost to Luton and Derby
Watford lost to Huddersfield and drew at Wycombe
Brentford lost to Coventry, drew twice with Derby
Swansea lost to Brum, Bristol City and Huddersfield
Barnsley lost to Luton, Sheff Wed and Huddersfield
Bournemouth lost twice to Wednesday, only took 1 point off Derby and 1 off Luton

So yes picking up more points against the strugglers would have helped but the points against those around you are almost worth more, esp. at this stage of the season.

Yeah but there's NO WAY Wednesday will beat Cardiff....

Bottom of the playoffs, played more than all of our rivals and have the hardest run in.

Doesn’t look great but stranger things have happened.

I would say that’s it for us. A shame as we have been in the top six all season. But we only have ourselves to blame, losing to ten man Wycombe, Birmingham doing the double over us. One point off Preston missed pens etc.

Our saving grace will be that as it stands, Swansea and Cardiff both in the bottom 4 of the form table, Luton lack the quality and are also below us and Norwich will be on the beach.

You know Cardiff are going to be right up for it but we really need maximum points.

This is probably the kiss of death for my Last-Six Games Predictions
but my first two were correct scores. I have us finishing on 78 but
if we miss that points-total, most likely (*I* think) is the Luton game,
which would be typical Reading.

If we miss out, Joao will probably get a hat-trick v Huddersfield
also typical Reading. (Not a real prediction).

Reading 3-1 Derby - - - - - CORRECT SCORE

Watford 2-0 Reading - - - CORRECT SCORE

Reading 2-1 Cardiff

Luton 0-1 Reading I wrote: “actually very worried about this game”

If that's correct, I think we still make top 6. But no room for error.

If that's correct I'm going to be pissed the I didn't have a £10 accumulator on it.

I would think 78 points would be the minimum to have a chance of the play-offs this season, that means we need to win 4 of our last 5 games.

I think that we may as well admit our season is over. If Barnsley and Bournemouth win today, and Bournemouth win their game on Wednesday, we will go into Fridays game being five points outside the play off positions. Even winning all our games will probably still leave us outside the top six. But at least it has been a more exciting season than the last few relegation battles.

Copying my post from the Rival Watch thread.

We are going to have to turn against some poor records vs the sides we're yet to play I think.

Cardiff - just 2 wins at home in our last 11 v them since premier league relegation under Coppell. We'e won 2 from the last 5 at home v them but still a poor record over the years.

Luton - just 1 win at Kenilworth Road from our last 6 there in all competitions (just the 5-0 slaughter of them last year). Even the 106 side lost there.

Swansea - no win in 14 in any competition since 2008. Think we've lost 8 or 9 of those games and Swansea have smashed us 4-1 in their last 2 league visits.

Norwich - we actually have a pretty good record at Carrow Road over the last 20 year's or so with 4 wins there from our last 10 visits. But the best team in the league still and it has to be seen as a free hit.

Huddersfield - our recent home record is far from great vs them lot either with 2 wins from their last 6 visits to the Madejski.

Whilst football isn't played on stats, except for Norwich we don't have a decent record v any of our remaining opponents and Norwich is our toughest game on paper left. I'd expect no more than 6 points from those games. I think we're more likely to finish 8th or 9th than in the top 6.

I think it's 76-77, something like that.

I remember 6th place getting 80 points a few years back

Since we got promoted nearly 20 years ago only two teams have occupied the last play-off place on more than 75 points, Ipswich on 78 points and Fulham on 80 when we beat them.
Leicester even did it on 68 when we were last in the PL.

But on the flip side, we got 43 or 44 points in 2018 which would 80% of the time have been enough to see us relegated. If we miss out with 75 points or so this season I'll see it as swings and roundabouts.

That 1 season we were in the premier league was a freak one in the championship. Leicester only finished 14 points above the relegation zone but would have been promoted if they'd won the playoffs.

The play offs are gone barring a miracle. The writing was on the wall when we lost to Wycombe and Birmingham.

The team gave us joy, joy that we may not see again for a while if the EFL rumours are true, but ultimately they just haven't quite been good enough.

Jacksons Corner That’s because I’m right i am never wrong. We just haven’t been good enough. With Richards Olise both leaving and a transfer embargo possible points deduction next season 150 years could be marked with relegation.
