tidus_mi2 I'll have to rewatch Aluko's, was that the one with the fantastic assist?

Yep, defence splitting ball from Ovie. Was more a "pass of the season" than goal of the season.

Honestly should be a separate category for Assist of The Year. that's definitely up there.

Agreed, McIntyre's on Saturday was skillz as well.

Made even sexier because it was McIntyre.

No quite on a par with Pearce's slow-mo step over @ Doncaster, but up there.

Just thought I'd bump this thread.

Assuming nothing special happens in the next two matches, what do you think was Reading's goal of the season?

Perhaps there are more than one category of GOTS - best team goal, most important goal, best individual effort, best free kick

It may sound an odd idea but what was the best goal scored against Reading this season?

Every goal scored against Reading should have been disallowed
and was a lucky breakaway against the run of play, scored with
the help of a dodgy ref.

So they are all the same.

A lot of the goals early in the season were excellent.

Remember I tried to create a top-ten where we would update the ten
as we went. That died a very sad death

Snowball For example, although Joao's turn and shot v Colchester was excellent
it WAS against Colchester, not Bournemouth or Brentford, so (for me)
that downgrades the goal slightly.

Similarly, Derby looked very poor. If they end up bottom six, maybe
Joao's and Ejaria's goals will get a bit of the shine taken off.

But we do the same against strong, top-two side, or against Man Utd?

well, yeah

Collated the comments

1. Ejaria's Goal for 0-2 at Derby
2. Joao's great turn in the six yard box versus Colchester
3. Joao's sneaky near-post goal at Derby (training routine)
4. Joao's equalising header after an excellent Araruna cross (V Colchester)
5. Joao's cool goal after being put through by an excellent Olise ball.

So, how did last week's goals v Barnsley rate?

Meite eventually scoring from a corner
Olise long range shot

Olise's was special. The week before Velcro had been saying he needs to add goals to his game, and the following week BOOM, he does it. First senior goal, and of course it was great.

Olise probably on a par with Ejaria's for me.

Yeah Olise will be up there come the end of the season. Was a great shot.

Olise vs Barnsley 7.9
Ejaria vs Derby 7.3
Joao vs Derby 6.2
Meite vs Barnsley 4.1

1. Ejaria's Goal for 0-2 at Derby. (A good 8+ for me)

Team move, brilliant hold-up play, great shot from a narrow angle

3. Morrison at Cardiff. (7.5)

Olise's perfect cross and fantastic header. Clear coaching for the CBs

2. Olise's half-volley v Barnsley, his first league goal. (7.4)

Thought the keeper was at fault, taking the edge of the goal

4. Joao's turn and shot at Cardiff (7.3)

Prefer this goal to Joao's turn and goal v Colchester. We had four men breaking,
Laurent drove forward hard, slipped the ball to Joao, who again did very well

5. Joao's great turn in the six yard box versus Colchester (7.2)

Well-executed but against lower class opposition

6. Joao's sneaky near-post goal at Derby after block by Moore (7.1)

Nice goal, training routine, but not as special or memorable as the top five, for me.

7. Joao's equalising header after an excellent Araruna cross (v Colchester) (7)
"Standard" decent-striker's header but a peach of a cross.

8. Joao's cool goal after being put through by an excellent Olise through-ball. (7)

Through ball quality, finish ultra-cool, but opposition mediocre

9. Meite's scrambled header, first goal against Barnsley (6)

Meite so often in the right place, but a scrappy goal. Won't be top 20.

Remember this thread anyone? Where are we now for goal of the season? Olise v QPR must be in top 5 and Aluko v Bournemouth as well.

I'll have to rewatch Aluko's, was that the one with the fantastic assist?

Meite's overhead kick has to be a contender for me.

Yep, defence splitting ball from Ovie. Was more a "pass of the season" than goal of the season.

Morrison’s dribble etc?

Probably Tom Lawrence for Derby from the other week.

The one I enjoyed most was Joao at Huddersfield, winning us 3 points on his return from injury. But Meite's overhead kick and Olise's first time shot against Derby were probably better.

No matter what you think of the person or player, you can’t deny that was a great goal.
