hate it when commentators suddenly raise their voice as a corner is being taken and state something about what might be about to happen. Its done purely for their own benefit as if a goal is scored they have then prefixed a big moment with some amazing statement. cringy

anyway, radio commentary >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> tv commentary.

Radio commentary will always be better than TV commentary as it is much more involved, and this likely to attract a more skilful commentator.

Cricket seems to be the only sport that seems to have parity between TV and radio comms. I think Sky and TMS both offer excellent insight and analysis and are very competent.

Oh I like this, just for when it comes off. There's a bit of an art to teeing up the action. Alisson's goal at West Brom a brilliant example. 'Are we about to see a twist in the tale? Alisson is up.......HE GETS IT! ALISSON!'

Royal Rother One of the most impressive has been HRK.

Articulate, doesn’t talk in cliches, calm and confident. Impressive. Should find it easy to get a placement when his playing days are over.

If he wants one - I suspect he'll be more interested in expanding his health supplements range

Interesting observation from Micah on US TV about Karim Benzema.

I think with radio commentary, you're telling a story, with tv commentary, 95% of the time, you're stating the bleedin' obvious.

I appreciate it’s a commentator rather than a pundit but Maryin Tyler’s “and it’s live” really, REALLY grates with me.

Yes, Martin, and if it wasn’t live I wouldn’t be watching it

TV Commentary is kind of weird when you think about it. You're just listening to a bloke describing what you're literally looking at

And blind people will just listen to the radio because it's far more detailed

It's not on TalkSport, where a lot of the time you haven't got a clue what is happening.

I well remember the days of Benaud and Laker where they sometimes wouldn't utter a word for 5 mins. (No exaggeration.)

Dan Maskell was another with the tennis. He'd commentate on a 2hr match and say about 50 words.

I miss Brian Moore and John Motson. These were the voices of football.

Today we have to tolerate the likes of Jamie Carragher and Lee Hendrie... Complete contrast!

I don't, they were both gibbering loons and absolutely dreadful.

However, if you'd said Barry Davies.....

There's a commentator from Newcastle who does la liga games and has had some of the best ever lines about football I've ever heard. Normally about Messi

"Call up hogwarts and get this little magician an application, everything he touches turns to magic"

Annoyingly I can't remember his name.
