Given the age of the alleged victims I'm not sure a honey trap scenario comes into it.

It's an investigation into 'child sex' allegations. That means the victims, if it is proved, are at least under the age of 17. It is difficult to see persons of that age setting up a honey trap scenario, to what end and what motive. An adult or adults may have the wherewithal or motive to do that, that we don't know, but no such suggestion or arrests of adults have been made.

A 16 or 17 year old for example could just pose as a 19 or 20 year old (oxf*rd knows people dress up these days as if they're older) and swap pictures and then end up screwing him over.

Why? God knows. Maybe a media sting or somebody looking for a payday.

I just cannot see somebody like him who is the captain of the team with a wife like he has and young children doing it because of shits and giggles.

My initial post about honey traps was more about me wanting to find possible scenarios that deflect responsibility away from him, not any genuine belief that it was true.

Quite, although even in your scenario which I believe is not likely, to describe it as a 'honey trap' is pushing it. Note that Icelandic media are now identifying the person arrested as they probably have different laws to UK.

Unless the accused is in some position of authority, surely they'd need to be under 16. There's nothing illegal about a 31 year old sleeping with a 17 year old.

Yes that's likely correct although we don't know the allegations are 'sleeping with.' I was more using 17 as a benchmark of criminal responsibility in this country rather than an age of consent reference.

He's a rich, famous, and not exactly ugly man. I suspect he'd get a lot of offers, rather than having to coerce people into it.

It's entirely his responsibilty to take a step back and say no even when he doesn't initiate contact. He will only have himself to blame.

He is oxf*rd regardless. Different case but Ched Evans (he got jailed. but released as it was proven to not be true) got shunned by every club he tried to join because sponsers and board members got pissy. Think he went to some lower league team like Fleetwood.

And he gets chants and abuse every game. Just such a shame and a shock. Probably trying to find excuses tbh about why It won't be true

I'm just saying that there's always an implication these days that the accused must have manipulated the situation to get the girl to do something she wasn't happy with.

That said, if he knew she was under age, or even suspected, he should have shown restraint - and that's ignoring the whole married family man part.

I suspect a huge number of young men who get such offers though will be like a kid in a sweet shop.
