No Programmes this season

by Wallington Royal » 10 Aug 2021 20:55

I hear the club are not producing programmes this season. Is this a cost cutting excise as I am surprised in their 150 year.....

Where have you heard this? I’d be very surprised if this is the case with the effort gone into producing the season ticket packages.

There is a global paper shortage and the cost is increasing, so they might have decided to bin them off. I would be surprised though.

I wonder how many programmes they sell as a percentage of the gate. 30% maybe?

I always buy a programme so would be disappointed if true.

Don’t really add much these days, all are the same sort of uniform size containing adverts and all the same info most fans already know at the same price. Long gone are the days of quirky design and content at varying prices.

Which you might find in a special year, like a 150th anniversary year, for example?

Would have been a good idea for the club to do one a month, would have saved money and also satisfied the needs of programme collectors.

Surely in this day and age they could have produced an online only programme? Ask supporters to pay maybe £30 a season and the programme gets uploaded on home matchdays? Could have special offers in it etc to encourage uptake.

Would agree, there should be a “special” one off publication oroduced by the club during the course of the season to celebrate 150 years but not a programme, after all which game should be the game to produce it for?

But you could have a different design every week, which is made to look and feel like a programme from the days of yore. Would suggest that the last game of 2021 would be the main one though, which celebrates 150 years, seeing as the legend most people go along with is that the football club started during the winter of 1871.

Wanna link it? Because I've just been through their twitter and can't see any mention of programmes.

I believe the information comes from supporters to attended last night and asked about programmes.

It was in the match programme.

I hear there's a regular section in every programme dedicated to why there will be no programmes this season.

There were no programmes for the three games where we had fans back last season. I suppose it’s the way of things but I do think it’s a shame.

Ah, so not on twitter and also no confirmation from the club.

I'll reserve judgement on this one until I go on Saturday.

I guess the thing with that was there was a very limited number of attendees and it might've made things not cost effective and slightly difficult getting programme sellers out to the games, who seem to be mostly older.

My Son asked at the match yesterday if there were programmes available and was told none for tonight and don't expect there to be any this season.

Sign of the times I guess....back in the day pre internet the programme was the main source of info on the opposition, how to get to away games, fixture lists etc, as well as how the reserves and youth sides were doing

You used to get a proper football report on the game too in Monday's Evening Post rather than just a live blog....

I expect the Club will designate a Century game at some point (was Gillingham for 100 years) and will likely produce something nice for that
