Pauno in for now. (Honestly would not blame him for walking with what he has had to deal with)

Any anger should be directed at the way the club is run off the field and this is not directed at Dai Yongge rather the people who are running the club on there behalf. The club is still run in a manner like we are at Elm Park, release clauses in players contract based on previous record sales rather than current market value. It’s pathetic.

Not that the players or staff will read this but stop sulking about what the EFL have done to the club and start putting a shift in and fight for each other.

Never been convinced by VP and you seriously have to wonder about the tactics and formations being used, not to mention the style of play.

Basic problems are

A) lack of tempo, it’s too damn slow
B) playing too deep, noticeably when taking the lead trying to defend it rather than trying to get the second
C) 1 up front too often and a total intransigence to have a second style of play to fit the players to hand
D) lack of real width and pace where it matters,
E) too many midfielders whose game is to basically fart-arse about with the ball rather than be more direct

It doesn’t help with the restrictions on him at the moment off the pitch but then these problems were quite apparent last season as well, particularly as the season wore on and teams sussed out how to play against Reading.

If it gets to the end of September or into October and the club is still in or around the bottom 3 it’s going to be interesting to see what the owners do given their previous history with RFC management.

I hold my hands up and apologise. I said it was a stupid thread but now I can tell it isn't.

He needs to go.

genome I think he's earned just about enough credit from last season and the shambles behind the scenes with the EFL for me to be Pauno In for the time being. I'll give him another month or so.

oxf*rd it, give him the season regardless. The defence is a big issue at his door, but bugger all else is. If we get relegated see if he can bounce us back. Let's have some stability for a change

NathStPaul Nah he won't go. Can't get rid or bring a decent manager in on what we are allowed to pay out/pay in wages.

When did we last have a "decent" manager. Like players. Seems to be pure punts. Rather than promoting from a lower level of English football.

Thought Steve Clarke was doing an excellent job until Fulham came knocking. Good coach, we'd have done ok under him long term.

The form had already fallen apart. His success was built entirely on Blackman having a brilliant 3 months, which had also already ended before we sold him

Still just about pro VP given the crap out of his control but you can tell that he knows if things don't sort themselves out soon he's out.

Can't imagine managing a small squad where anything between 8 to 10 of your starting 11 can walk away next year is the easiest gig in the world.

I don't doubt that, answer was just in relation to who was the last decent coach/manager. I think Clarke is very good, his jobs at Kilmarnock and Scotland demonstrate that.
Had we kept him on we would have had a solid foundation, maybe not spectacular but at the least solid.

Sack pauno give gilksy the gig and get Steve bould who’s just been let go from Arsenal u23 manager to run the academy. Then stick with gilksy for 2-3 years. Would much rather give him the stability of managing the team rather than this fraud of a manager we have at the moment.

Trying to play big time charlie has put us in this mess.

Stability works.
Scapegoating managers left right and centre doesn't.

Be nice to sort a problem out for a change, rather than just creating new ones.

Seen League One, it's not so bad.

“The Padre” (to quote a long lamented Pardew hater) and Sir SC had their dissenters way past this point.

Pains me...but, yes please Ian, to stability.

If you attribute those first 8 games to "new manager bounce" (which IMO is perfectly reasonable), then his record since then is average trending poor.

Should he be sacked though? Based on the recent decision making at the club, and apparent complete lack of football knowledge, I doubt he'd be replaced with anybody better.

What does a good manager do?

Is it to help train players and make them better, make sensible changes during the game, not keep making the same mistakes over and over again, improve the team, play players in their right positions and to their strengths?

Does Pauno tick these boxes? If he doesn't, how much is his fault and how much is the players or the impact of the embargo or lockdown?

You won't say that if we are about to go bust due to a big revenue drop and low crowds.
