URZZZZ
Hound just spotted this in regards to Stam being sacked by Cincinnati

FCC's now sits at 4-13-8 – Stam posted an 8-28-12 record as manager of Cincinnati – and is second-to-last in the MLS Eastern Conference.

The 2021 season was been a complete disappointment for FC Cincinnati, which built a slightly lopsided, attack-heavy team in terms of expenditure and had one of the most expensive rosters in MLS this year.

His career been an absolute shambles since season 1 here. It was a total fluke wasn't it?

poor Tyler as well

One of the strangest managers we’ve ever had

Found a system which worked to a tee - which got us to two kicks away from the Prem, and then for some unbeknown reason decided to alter it to something vastly different and complicated. Predictably, it didn’t work, and he then seemed determined to criticise the fans at any point

Haven’t followed his career much since then but on the snippets I’ve seen, it seems it’s been a similar pattern to his second season here

Meanwhile, Steven Reid's career seems to have gone quite well. :?

The Royal Forester Today, Windsor FC has announced the signing of James Harper. Welcome back to Berkshire, James. Hope your stay with The Royalists (if that is still their nickname) will be as succussful as with The Royals.

Now gone to Ascot.

I wonder how Stam is taking his latest failure. In his 2nd season here, it often felt he'd blame everyone else including fans before admitting responsibility and learning from his mistakes, and it wasn't long afterwards that he said it only went wrong because he wasn't backed in the transfer market and that he wanted a chance in the PL (despite his signings being a key cause of FFP issues for years afterwards). That lack of humility is probably why I dislike him the most in a crowded field of recent unlikeable RFC managers.

Since us, he has had an absolute shocker. Unlucky? Style? Man management? Other than another dutch league 2 team taking a punt, i think he is now toast.

Ex triallist Kareem Harris has apparently joined Metalist Kharkiv in the Ukraine, meanwhile Jayden Onen is trialling with Sheffield Wednesday.

Think he will do a full 360 and end up back within Ajax’s back room staff, ever to remain.

What went wrong for Stam would be a fascinating story tbh. All the players seemed to absolutely love him at the time. But he didn't half make some errors - letting go a load of decent young players, poor signings, falling out with fans etc. But he did incredibly well first season with a side I think we thought would be near the relegation zone, and finances stretching not much further than the likes of Wieser and big Danzel.

Honestly expected him to go to a different league and do alright but a couple of shocking spells at Feyenoord and Cincinnati

I wonder whether a lot of the players signed after the play#off loss were players that Stam really wanted (thinking Barrow and Aluko in particular). Or were they owners (or Kia’s) signings?

Stam was a fan of Aluko - certainly think that was his call

Bodvarsson and Edwards in particular, I’m sceptical about, weren’t really his type of players

Pretty standard to get given players these days, and if that was the issue you'd expect him to have performed elsewhere.

Aluko is an odd one, its difficult to quantify. Its almost like someone gave Stam a budget to sign Oliviera (?) for x millions, but it wasn’t enough, so Stam felt obliged to spend it on something and the only player he could find at that price was a shit overpriced no real position forward. And it didn’t occur to him to just spend less on a different actual and decent striker.

Made some good signings on the cheap in the first season. Players that were bought for a specific reason to contribute in the system rather than just players bought for “their name” (Aluko, Bacuna etc). One of our best summer windows in a long time, even if there were a few duds (Weiser etc) and that was very much a budget window for us

Don’t think the work of Tevreden should be overlooked, signings seemed to go downhill as his input was reduced

Didn't we blink at the price for Oliveira and make the fatal Aluko transfer instead? Pretty sure the relegation battle would have been avoided if we'd got that right.

yes absolutely. The Swift signing seemed to be very much BT. Beerens a good cheap signing, combined fantastically with McCleary first half of the season. Moore as well. The duds were generally dirt cheap presumably so no real issue with them

Snowflake Royal What's Tevreden up to these days?

He was Dof at Roeselaire but there appears to be a football agency called Tevreden Group that was founded shortly after they went tits up, specialising in young Dutch footballers, mainly of colonial decent.

I liked Tevreden. He seemed to be quite level headed and a steady influence.

Wasn’t he scathing about how we were run and Gourlay on leaving?

Didn’t really have much opinion on him at the time, but the further we get from him the more positive it seems he was.

I remember at the time he had a reasonable grasp of the issues and had an idea of how to take us forward. He certainly talked a good fight and said a lot of the right things. He seemed to become an increasingly peripheral figure as Gourlay took over.
