Disgusting behaviour by the Bristol Manor Farm manager and committee member against the referee on Saturday which has gone viral.

Absolute disgrace. There are real concerns with the lack of referee's at the moment which then means the pool for good refs get less and the weekend situation will not help matters.

Hope he's charged by the FA.

if you quote them on twitter i am sure it will come up.

Just real dogsh1t abuse from their manager when walking off at half time or end of game. Had to be restrained, if he wasnt, clearly he would of assaulted the referee. I am not sure why he was so angry. Committee member comes onto pitch and rather diffusing the situation and taking manager away goes straight to referee and says something like "get in your f*cking dressing room now" or similar.

I know i get moaned at for defending refs but same time, all that happens is less refs will take up the game so standard would slip further - that is clearly happening now. So many games at lower level are not being covered due to lack of them.

It is absolutely correct to defend referees, more clubs and players should do it. There is rightly a lot in place to prevent racism and discrimination in the game but very little to promote the reduction of referee abuse, especially at grassroots level. I know the lower divisions of the league I play in have struggled for refs recently simply because they cannot convince anyone to officiate, a few referees have walked away due to issues last season. Until there are proper punishments in place for offenders and more importantly the clubs they play for, it will keep happening. The grassroots clubs need to be hit where it hurts, heavy financial penalties for clubs who can barely afford it is far more effective than going after the players imo. Obviously ban them for a long time but financially go after the clubs.

I'd also like the FA to do more in terms of getting older referees to do more to help the younger generation. I am sure there are a lot of referees in their 50's/60's who still love football but maybe can't do as many games as they used to or aren't physcially able to referee but want to still be involved. Get them into the youth football clubs as referee mentors, pay them a few quid to do so. This is something my dad does quite a lot off his own back. He has been a pretty high profile referee in Berks and Bucks for years now and still loves it but has transitioned more into doing youth games due to age. He will often watch other games going on before or after his matches and offer advice to the young referees (whether they want it or not) and is kind of an unofficial referee coach at one of the bigger local clubs around here. We need more of this, someone the young refs can email or text for advice. It would help no end.

One potential solution I have thought about is for the referees to wear a camera. This is of course not ideal but if a camera is present I feel it will reduce abuse and increase the amount of players and managers getting lengthy bans if it does happen. I understand there is a cost to this but we are on the verge of it becoming a necessity imo.

Great post, thank you for commenting.

One of the referee support groups were giving out free camera holders to referee's last week. They went in no time. Basically you strap around your body and record via your iphone, interesting move.

I am hoping Bristol Manor Farm get shamed but noticed they have turned off comments etc on twitter lol. Regardless of the match incident, this is dog abuse that should not be tolerated. A part time club giving abuse to an official who is doing it for a hobby / love of the game. Utter disgrace. Been there myself, thankfully because of social media this type of incident can be shared more, where back in my day it was a very lonely experience.

Re: The Non - League thread

Bristol Manor Farm are now under investigation. Manager issued an apology last night, but if that was an apology i am Max Branning. If thats the best he can come up with, that bloke has some serious issues. FOC might know more of the background but i think the manager pumps the money into the club, so he wont be going anywhere fast. Talk of referee's boycotting there matches. Interesting times.

Speaking to Bristol Live, Lashenko – who has been in charge of Manor Farm for eight seasons – accepts he was in the wrong but has also apportioned a degree of blame for the incident towards referee Lawrence.

“I will apologise for heated words – because that’s all it was – there weren’t any actions, there wasn’t anything physical and it wouldn’t ever get to that,” Lashenko said.

“I’m not proud of my 20-second rant but that’s what came out of me at the time and then I disappeared to the changing room.

“It was a provoked reaction and if I’d have gone in (and spoke to the referee) an hour after, instead of straight away, I would have done things differently.

“I’m not proud but it’s something I’ve got to live with and something I’ve got to overcome. I’ll look at my actions and the first person I criticise is myself and I’m going to learn from it and ensure my calmness after a game is a bit more long-term.

“Maybe I shouldn’t shake referee’s hands after a game and, win, lose or draw, I should go straight into the dressing room and see them for a pint in the bar instead. That’s something I’ve got to work on.”

The Manor Farm manager’s gripe appears to be with the original decision to book him for the dissent, with the referee apparently unable to identify where the abuse had originated from, and then the official’s reaction when he approached him at full-time.

“I was booked for a comment midway through the second-half from an area of the ground with a lot of people, all with similar accents, and when the referee booked me he admitted, ‘you’ll have to do, Lee,’" Lashenko added.

“I didn’t know that if there’s a comment made from the dugout or the area of the dugout, if they (referees) believe it’s been made from the dugout then as the manager, as the senior person, you have to carry the can.

“At the end of the game, I went onto the pitch, as I always do, to shake everybody’s hands and I told the referee in no uncertain terms that I’d lost a lot of respect for him, with regards to his performance and the yellow card.

So he was saying he was provoked, because the referee issued a yellow card because he was receiving dog abuse. I understand the provoked bit is because the referee said "if you carry on i have a red in my pocket" - and because of that he explodes. Absolute disgrace.

I am still annoyed at that club official too. A great example of the god awful crap referree's have to put up with week in week out, and believe me, since lockdown it has got worse, you would think people would be more understanding.

His comments are ridiculous, he is spending more time trying to justify his actions rather than apologising and saying what he will do to change his behaviour. Why would any referee want a pint with him in the bar? Has quite a high opinion of himself apparently.

His statement should have been:

Apology
What he is going to do to change his behaviour
Apology

Thats it, all anyone wanted to hear. He comes across as a bullshit merchant and someone who thinks the world owes him something.

Absolutely, he sounds a vile individual. Other thing that makes me laugh, amount of time managers moan about refereeing time keeping etc - he calls that a 20 second rant. Well, he was screaming at the start, he was screaming at the end, and its a minute long

To justify it by saying he wont shake hands after the game, like normal people, tells us all we need to know.

I play at a very high level of football, we had a game the other week in Horley where one of their players threatened the REF and almost punched him

we have a shortage of 20 refs in the league

You don't have shortages if you play very high? There's shortages at the bottom tiers because the better levels get the refs...

What step do you play at?

He plays for a Division 5 side in one of the lowest leagues you could imagine. One up from Sunday league.

Once again he is living in a fantasy world.

No I do not. You play for a team that gets battered every week. I have seen videos of it, you are absolutely awful and let in loads of goals in Division 4

The league I play in is very good. I am better then you at every aspect of life, especially football.

I play for Reading.

Just kidding, I play high level for amateur's football. Do not listen to OMA, he lies about everything and I can give you more examples of him lying.

9 years ago I played semi pro, then done my ACL in twice and have had various other injuries since. I have currently got a torn thigh and calf so out for 3-4 months. I am step 11 but was sent to a development team for fitness gaining but got injured again. I am continuing on doing my coaching badges now and have been for ages.

Sending real names and personal information of people? I am going to report that to the authorities and your works HR dept for harrasment

I admitted I played for a team on loan anyway for fitness but my actual team is higher. Unlike your team, the swords, who get battered.

There are some funny videos of you playing football and letting goals in, and wearing a batty headband

That is funny because you have not won. I used to play for a team in your division and played against you before. There are other videos on youtube I watched against another team which was a loss.

The team you play for now get battered and you have an awful goal difference. You should consider going to a goalkeeper camp in half term, it might help.

I do not profess to be good at football anymore but I have had 2 ACL tears, have a torn calf and thigh and still scored goals.

You've never played against me, you aren't good enough to play up at that level.

The only video of me playing for my current team was from last season, not this season.

I've never professed to playing a high level or said my team were good, you have done this despite playing step 11 and in Division 5.

You're lying again and have been caught out. Just own it, apologise for lying and move on.

I did admit it above twice. I used to be good but not anymore because of my injuries. I played for a team in your division, you can maybe guess which one. We played against your team many times in years past and always won. I do not lie and nothing I have said is not the truth. Lets just be friends again now?

Anyway - Bristol Manor Farm have issued an apology, well i say apology, its an absolute disgrace. Damage limitation in my eyes and no doubt written by the manager who seems to run and own the club - they sound horrible
