Not a Reading fc miss but on this day 24 years ago, Steve Stone wrote himself into legend.

Matej Vydra used to win this award every week when he 'played' for us. I'll narrow it down to the one up at Boro on a Tuesday night though.

Shane Long's miss in the closing minutes of the away match at Birmingham in December 2007. Just in front of goal, and with plenty of time, and space, he tried a spectacular scisor kick when a volley, a diving header or even a well-placed knee would have had more chance of going in.

It might not be worst in terms of egregiousness, but in terms of impact I can't think of another just as bad. Turning that 1-1 draw into a win would have kept us up, and the whole history of Reading FC would be immeasurably better.

Or we could have just been relegated the following season.

I vaguely recall Paul Brayson taking a shot which went out for a throw in, that's how far off target he was.

I watched that match from the Tilehurst End and Stone's shot went nearer my head than the back of the net.

In terms of Reading history the play off final penalty miss v Bolton must be the worst.

Liam Moore’s penalty miss was worse. At least Archie got it on target
