Winston Biscuit
Sanguine Not the first journalist to air this view, but Liew makes an interesting point about United and Ronaldo. That Ronaldo's individual stats and performances continue to amaze, but that the team is set up for him and in his image, to the detriment of results

That's what kept being said of him at Juventus in his last year (and earlier) but people saw his stats and ignored it. His final year at Juve he scored 29 in 33 league games, yet the team were awful as it was all built around servicing him.

I think it was Lars Sivertsen (Norweigen journo who appears on various pods, radio etc) who, during all the excitement of Ronaldo's move here, kept saying he would score loads of goals but the move wouldn't be a success as you just had to look at Juve's decline to see his wider impact

Yeah, agree with that

You’d have to be a bit of a fool to question his ability but the crux of the matter is that United don’t have the quality in midfield and defence to accommodate setting up the team to suit his game

The Madrid team did as they had the quality in defence and midfield to cope with Ronaldo’s lethargic pressing. Fred, McTominay, Lindelof and co simply don’t

Ole somewhat laughably compared him to Jordan, not realising that Scott McTominay is no Scottie Pippen

Katie Price? Both fond of a tan and taking their shirts off for photos.

Silver Fox Did United fans really get that excited when Aguerooooooo scored?

One of the joys of that day was the look on the faces of Man Utd fans and Fergie when they realised that they had not won the title after all.
If Tyler had been at Man Utd's game he would no doubt have been morose but in the moment at City he clearly forgot himself and football that day was the winner as he got (as we hear repeated so often and was a special moment) excited about an event that he was at.

I suggest that fans listen out as the season progresses for the signs that I claim as I suspect that this could be his last as a commentator as right-on Sky will probably use a 25 year-old disabled transgender mixed race reality show runner-up replacement rather than keep such an old boy on..

Once again, listening to Tyler and Neville commentating as if they were at a funeral.
What can the owners be thinking?
All that money spent and the team just strolls around letting the opposition do what they want and not even a shot on target in the whole match IIRC.

Thoughts with Brobot (and Tyler and Neville) at this difficult time and thank goodness England only have 2 simple games coming up. I dread to think how we might perform against anybody decent with those slow-thinking defenders Maguire and Shaw at the back.

Absolute comical defending for the 2nd goal.

United had more shots on target against their own Keeper than they had against the City Keeper.

That’s the sort of game you get when it’s a big team against a mid-table team who aren’t up for it

Ronaldo kicked de Bruyne more often that he kicked the ball in the second half

So many managers seemed to have jumped on the bandwagon and are going with 3/5 at the back - and it seems that Ole can be added to the list

The reality is that the wingbacks need to specialised in such a way that they’re efficient both offensively and defensively. The idea of AWB as a RWB is laughable, very limited going forward and only an OK defender

It’s a shame that wingers are becoming a dying breed and being replaced by these so called “wing backs” who can’t actually cross a ball in

Still maintain Ronaldo is a bit of a hindrance to the United side, overall quality has deteriorated since he’s come in even if he has produced himself

Alfonso Davies and James and Chilwell is the best example of wing backs working effectively that I can
think of. Never been convinced by AWB defending ability.

It looks as though Man Utd need a manager who can organise a team and get the best out of his players.
Somebody like David Moyes?

Unsurprisingly looks like the end of Ole. Fletcher rumoured to be taking over in the short term, with Zidane’s name in the running on a permanent basis

Think Ole made a rod for his own back. Too many attackers in the team, not enough (good enough) depth elsewhere, and couldn’t keep his attackers happy. For the front four alone, they have Cavani, Ronaldo, Martial, Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho, Lingard, Pogba, VDB, Fernandes and even Mata. How can you expect to keep them all happy, especially when you don’t rotate Fernandes or Ronaldo?

Said it a month or so back that Ronaldo is a detriment to the team and nothing has changed my mind since

Classic case of being good because you're not in the team. There must've been a reason why he wasn't playing.
