BraisingsteakRoyal Tore Everton apart at times last night - then coasted for long periods. Everton defenders looked like the proverbial rabbits in the headlights for the first 20 minutes.

Without a Gylfi or a James - they're lacking a killer ball / bit of creativity. Not sure Townsend or Rondon are top drawer forwards (although the former does strike a ball well). Seamus Coleman tried valiantly to contain the front three - but age is catching up with him. Rafa gone before the season is out.

Just on Everton.
Keane, Holgate and Godfrey have all been in England squads and yet are way off being top class.
Further evidence of players being selected for England without being ready or having done enough to justify selection.

Holgate has never been selected for the full squad. Godfrey was called up once, for the provisional Euro 2020 squad, at which time Southgate said that the call-up was only for his experience. So I'm not sure your last line is particularly fair, on these players at least.

I thought that Holgate had been called up-maybe it was just paper talk about him being called up when the likes of Dunk and Tarkowski were arguably much superior.

In just 38 minutes of league football, Origi had scored more (2) than Kane has (1) in the league so far this season

Felt he’s been oddly underused at times by Klopp in the last 14 or so months. He can be frustrating and by no means should be dislodging the usual attack but he delivers on a regular basis. Every time he’s written off, he proves people wrong again

Kane has 1 goal?! Jesus christ.

He would have broken shearer's record i think if he didn't lose himself and want away. Dont know if any team in the Prem would want or need him now.

Especially as city will either go for haaland or that fiorentina bloke most likely.

From the little that we have seen he has quickened up this season and the goal was a result of quick thinking of mind and body.
He gets so much love from his manager and fans that I wonder if he is quite happy to just play those cameo (but important) parts.

He scored crucial goals in that game against Barcelona and again in the final. He could do fcuk all for the rest of his Liverpool career and they'll still love him just for those 2 games.

He tends to deliver when it matters and because he's not a Mane or a Salah, he flies under the radar a bit. Perfect impact sub material.

Don't forget the one against Everton in the Merseyside Derby

Although that had more to do with pickford then anything else

He'll get plenty of game time when the African Cup of Nations starts.

For breaking the rules.
Arteta will probably wait for a full report from one of his staff members as he was unaware himself that players got booked or sent-off for kicking opposition players.

Harvey Elliott available for Liverpool's cup tie at the weekend. I know it was 'only' a dislocation, but that's a remarkable turnaround from his foot pointing sideways at Leeds.

Good to see him back as this season he was starting to look the real deal and will be a welcome addition again to the number of excellent attacking players at the club which will shortly include a current AFCON winner whatever the result of the final.

Wonder if Klopp'll give Diaz a run out in that game.

Looks like they’re right back in the title race after it looked like for a brief spell that City would run away with it. From early impressions, Diaz is looking to be a decent acquisition and even with a bench full of internationals, Gomez, Jota, Firmino (both injured) and Elliott were all omitted from the squad. Envisage some selection headaches for Klopp with everyone fit, especially in the midfield area

Chance of a quadruple

Think Liverpool’s season so far has gone under the radar a little bit, to be in a chance of a quadruple with only a month of the season to go is very good - bounced back well after a disappointing second half to last season

Side note, but feel for Minamino, not sure he could have done much more in his appearances (102MPG) and yet even with 12 subs yesterday, was no where to be seen. Was surprised at the subs Klopp used given the much bigger fixtures they had (bringing Mane on with 25 minutes to go with a four goal lead for example) when they had backup players on the bench who hadn’t featured for a while but sure he had his reasons

Same with Origi who us now being shipped out to Milan I think.

Origi and Minamino always perform when needed and its a case of just 2 of the leagues best forwards ahead of them and Diaz who is a beast.

Origi and Minamino would walk into most PL sides.

Yet another European semi-final for Liverpool tonight.
It will be hard for the game to match the excitement of last night's City v Real Madrid game as I expect the defending to be a bit better.

If they get through, whoever Liverpool play in the final should be a cracker.

I'm not sure the defending was bad at all last night - it was just that both teams had an array of attacking talent capable of breahing almost anything.

Goal 1 - great cross and excellent header - little that Carvahal could have done to prevent it
Goal 2 - Brilliant control, turn and shot - Alaba maybe, just maybe could have cut out the original ball in
Goal 3 - Benzema was exceptional and little that Zinchenko could have done - just possibly Mahrez could've been stronger in the original tackle, but that's not a defensive issue per se
Goal 4 - Brilliant run by Fernandhino and fantastic cross - ok, Foden shouldn't have been left completely alone, but he is only 3 foot 6 so slipped in unnoticed
Goal 5 - What can I say, goal of the night - the dummy, the speed, the run, the finish - doubt anyone could have done anything about it once Fernandhino hadn't stopped the first ball
Goal 6 - A little bit of hesitation but driven by the fact that it looked for all the world as if the referee was going to blow for the most obvious foul of the night and he did exceptionally well to allow a few seconds for the play to develop
Goal 7 - OK, you can have that one

All in all I'd say the scoreline was pretty much nothing to do with poor defending and everything to do with the quality of the forward movement and finishing

Don't want to argue- I respect that your opinion differs however I still feel that defensively neither team was very good which then produces a great watch for the neutral.

Never mind talk of a quadruple.
To make 2 and possibly 3 cup finals and win at least 1 of them and in the same season come 1st or 2nd in the Premier League represents a more than respectable season for a top club.

How clubs like Man Utd, Arsenal or Spurs would love to be in contention for just one of those competitions.

IMHO we are going through a golden period with 2 great sides at the top of English football.
