I'm under no illusion that we shouldn't surrender leads as often or as easily as we do and that is a concern that another manager would improve, I just can't see another manager having us significantly better off because at the end of the day, they will still have the same embargo to deal with this month, the players aren't likely to come back any quicker from injuries etc. The same problems that Pauno is up against would still be there for a new manager.

Yes, we may not surrender as many leads and we may be more defensively sound with McCarthy or Warnock for half a season and I don't doubt both of them would keep us up, but I believe Pauno will keep us up as well.

You've got that the wrong way round. We're not conceding loads of goals because we're at the bottom, we're at the bottom because we're conceding loads of goals. A manager who could tighten up our defensive play would make a big difference right now.

Except we couldn’t pass the ball because we had 10 players in or around the edge of our box.

If our CMs didn’t play half their game as CBs and we didn't bring 10 outfielders back for set pieces we'd have an outlet.

We also have Carroll, which makes hoofball a viable outlet. If he's up the pitch and we have anyone who can break to support him

Wouldn't make that decision now with still half a season to go tbh.

And that says it all, if you haven't the confidence to say yes now, 6 months before expiry there is your answer. How can we expect players to sign contract extensions when they don't know who the manager will be next season.

The average managerial appointment is less than a season now isn’t it?

If we sack and replace him TODAY it's not likely his replacement sees out next season either.

Well yeah I know what you're saying but it's the same difference in the context of looking at the table as it is now. I get what you mean though, a McCarthy would tighten us up so we would concede less goals but by the same token we might not score as many goals, therefore potentially not winning as many games and still being at the bottom. That's why I don't think any manager this season will have us significantly better off than what Pauno will.
