As some have already said, this is not far off our best eleven which makes it even worse.

That's the issue. This group doesn't make an effective coherent team. Flawed recruitment. Names and pedigree rather than graft and character. Was Drinkwater really the only midfield option available last summer despite the clubs financial woes ?

I think thats the managers job to make them a coherent team tbh. he doesn't need to play Drinkwater

The problems started when somebody at the club decided that Drinkwater was worth signing for the season. Might as well have raided league one for an all round hardworking grafter to supplement the abundance of technical gifted players in the squad.
