The Government has urged for “pragmatism from all parties” in the on-going battle to save Derby County and, once again, acknowledged the need for an independent regulator to prevent such collapses happening in future.

The statement by Lord Parkinson of Whitley Bay, on behalf of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, followed a written question by Derby County supporter Lord Pendry.

The Government responded: "The Government has urged pragmatism from all parties to find a solution for the benefit of fans, staff, and the community that the club serves.

"The EFL must preserve the integrity of the league on behalf of all member clubs, but all parties want to see one of the founding members of the Football League continue this season and beyond under appropriate ownership."

They will survive and get away with a lot.

Why would we have a case ?
They’ve had their penalty applied. What else can we claim ?

If they don't pay back what is credited to them as well as fielding players they have overdue payments for (Bielik from Arsenal for example), our claim would be they've essentially cheated their way through the season and stayed up at our expense. Therefore we'd be claiming for lost revenue, similar to Wycombe.

Surely if there are amounts overdue for transfers, the player involved should not be able to play until the amount is paid.

Well you'd think so but he's still contracted to Derby and they are (presumably still) paying his wages. But again, as you say, how can you field a player you haven't paid for on time to the selling club.

He supports Posh so has an interest in all of this. He is correct about Derby but he is pretty awful otherwise,

"..........Members agreed ‘that the starting point is that no Club should gain (or seek to gain) any advantage within the context of professional football over other Clubs by not paying all its creditors in full at all times.’


That is PRECISELY what Derby have done by playing a player (Bielik) who they haven't paid the creditor for in full, and who saved them a point at Forest the other night.

If Derby were to survive, they would be looking at another legal process from the teams that went down on that basis.

Yep. It is pissing me off that all we are hearing is poor Derby this poor Derby that. They should not be allowed to get away with it particularly as they only sold one regular member of their first team squad in January and could not renew Jagielka’s deal. I’m not including Plange as he was loaned back to them.

If things were that bad and then accept you have to sell your best players and take the hit on relegation. They want to stay up and cheat the creditors.

He does support them and has a more close-up and interested take on things at the bottom of The Championship, much more so than most sports media types.
He also was one of the few calling out little old lovely Bournemouth when they broke FFP rules and ended up having to cough up £9 million or so.

Agree, he averaged 1 goal every 5 games while at Reading which, given the recent years at the club, could probably be terned world class.
