That statement clearly shows that the senior management of the club understand and appreciate that a sizeable proportion of the active fan base are either close to, or actually at the point of open revolt against the club, and specifically against the Manager; the chants of "Pauno out" which were all too clearly heard on Wednesday night would not have been ignored.

Therefore, the statement (imho) is saying to the fans "yes, we have screwed up, but get behind and support the team firstly on Saturday which is a massive day celebrating the history of the club, and then for the remainder of this season; help us stay up, and Pauno will be gone in the Summer".

That's why there was no mention of the Manager by name, let alone any indication of backing or confidence in him.

If I was Pauno reading that, I would know that my time at Reading FC is up, and that I will be looking for new employment come the end of the season.

Well said Zammo. There is one thing to complain against the club but as soon as the whistle blows you support the team that is sent out to represent our club.
Too many sarcastic comments and put downs to others viewpoints do not help to foster a spirit of togetherness.
I forget the year exactly but we did change manager one year just ahead of transfer deadline day and ended up with 11 new players - we got relegated. Let the team gain some confidence (including support from the terraces/seats) and we will be fine.

Where I sit at least 6 season ticket holders have stopped going and won’t be returning. Crowds will soon be back to EP days. I would rather they said we plan to run this club into oblivion and out of business at least then we would know where we stand.

The Tommy Burns appointment, and it was widely reported at the time that all 7 of the players (including future club legends such as Robert Fleck, Peter van der Kwaak and Mass Sarr) all came from the same football agent..........

Heard Pauno gave up being a football manager back in November and now has a job writing the proverbs that go in fortune cookies and the slogans for motivational posters:

I think most football managers with a modicum of self respect and professional integrity would have resigned by Christmas; however, he obviously felt that he didn't need to regardless of whatever happened on - and off - the pitch, and knowing that the club can't afford to sack him and his staff is merely seeing his time out, pocketing his wages each Month, before he leaves at the end of the Season.

Our only hope is that he decides to try and help stave off relegation so that he can at least have something positive to say on his CV about this season when he applies for new jobs..........

No managers resign in this day and age, nobody with any sense would.

Allardyce resigned from West Brom when they got relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.

I don't understand not giving Pauno the finger. I don't believe it's linked to the restrictions imposed on us by the EFL. His contract is up in 4 months. Stick him on gardening leave, still on the payroll, and there's no pay-off. Bring in one of the handful of decent managers currently out of work and give us a fighting chance to stay up.

Do you understand what a manager pay off is? It's paying up his contract, why put him on gardening leave if you're going to bring in a replacement manager? Just sack him at that point.

Think technically that SC didn’t choose to stay after his deal ran out rather than actually resigning.

Going back through the years Charlie Hurley was probably the last Reading manager to simply resign without another job to go to. Since then all the others have been sacked apart from Sir Steve, Quinn/Gooding (who the club decided not to offer a new contract), Mark McGhee (who resigned after being allowed to talk to Leicester) and Alan Pardew (who resigned after not being allowed to speak to West Ham).

In fairness it’s a virtual sell out. Looks like only a few hundred tickets left so I don’t think it’s been done to add fans to the gate. Whatever we think about him he hasn’t been tight with the fans.

My seat will continue to remain empty. Season ticket sales in the summer are going to be the real test. As cheap as the product is. The overall experience doesn't warrant the outlay. In this financially challenging times.
