From Despair To Where?
Snowball
From Despair To Where?
So basically it all goes back to the point that the success or otherwise of an interim turned permenant manager is basically down to the level of stability and expectation at any given club, which is pretty much true of any manager which then goes back to my point that I don't believe it's remotely statistically significant.

Point was DM was picking up 1.83 ppg

2.09ppg as a permenant manager. Your point?

Jeez, it was a list of interim>perms showing many were disasters and a few weren’t. Just a few facts to consider. Wasn’t “making” any point

No need to get defensive. I mean, you're kind of labouring the non point then, aren't you? A non point that's been shown to be naive and inaccurate.

Statistically speaking, the 3rd best manager in the PL era is "No Manager" i.e. Caretaker/Interim manager or whatever you want to call them. They are only behind Fergie and Wenger.

Great job by Ince - adapted and learned very quickly particularly after those 3 successive defeats. He has got better with substitutions, more fight in the team, better structure, good attacking play and certainly progress in addressing defensive frailties but more work needed.

If he wants the job, then its his. If it also means we keep his son, even better.

More importantly and what so many people were craving for, but all of a sudden it has been forgotten, its the unity between players and fans, that has improved ten fold.

It's quite clear that Paul Ince is a great motivator but we have seen in the past that there is only so far you can go with that. You have to have the coaching and tactical ability to go with it.

Have Ince and his current coaching team got sufficient ability in that area? That would be my one concern. If they haven't, I could foresee the wheels starting to come off again part way through next season if he is given the job.

Think it is a good point about the current coaching team. We really need to improve the team around him imo, personally would like to see someone like Jobi McAnuff come in as his assistant.

Is McAnuff significantly better than what we've already got though? A bit more managerial experience at senior level than our current coaches, true, but I think we need an experienced coaching team who have been about 2/3 different clubs at this level recently to really help the squad. I've got no problem with McAnuff, I'm just not sure he's the one with the relevant coaching experience right now.

The problem is a lot of coaching staff tend to follow managers around from job to job and will move where they go. We've had a bit of a scratch coaching team for a while now, where we've had 1 member of staff from 1 manager, another from another manager and so forth. I think if we change manager, we need a full clear out in coaching staff ultimately so that a new manager can bring his own staff. In fairness to Ince, he alluded to this in the early stages when he appointed as interim.

I'm sure he will know some people who can come in and do the necessary, but I think we need 2, possibly 3, new coaches/staff members around him. Either that, or we keep it as it is but bring in 1, potentially 2, new staff members to assist the current set up we have. I'd personally keep one of Gilkes/Mikele in the first team, probably the former, and have one back in the U23/U18 set up, just to allow the first team staff to be filled with a couple of experienced, quality coaches.

You don't need your assistant to have coaching experience, you need them to be the link between manager and player and someone who the players can go to at times of need. The manager 99% of the time is bad cop where as the assistant will normally be the good cop.

Jobi of course is also much loved by all of our supporters, it would instantly lift everyones spirits.

But why would you break up Ince/Rae relationship, they clearly have a good understanding having played together at Wolves and Rae having been his assistant multiple times.

I think the mix of Ince/Rae and Ledge/Gilkes is probably a good mix of external and internal coaches.

It’s always difficult to judge from afar how good coaches are

Ince/Rae would be the management side.

Not sure Gilkes and Ledge have the coaching skills or not tbh. Gilkes doesn’t seem to have especially shone when he has done the job before but never sure how much of that is due to the manager

You don't "need" your assistant manager to have coaching experience, but considering they will potentially lead some coaching sessions, you would want your assistant manager to have some sort of relevant coaching experience, I just wouldn't feel comfortable with an assistant manager who doesn't have the relevant experience in a trusted role.

I don't doubt McAnuff would do that, but I'm not sure he's got the relevant experience that would significantly improve our coaching staff. As mentioned, I wouldn't want to split the Ince/Rae partnership, I'd just tweak Gilkes of Leigertwood personally speaking that may allow one of them to go back into the academy under a better role which may allow us to bring in 1/2 more experienced coaching staff with quality.

This is also true. I'm basing it purely off experience, rather than actual quality. Their sessions may actually be the best the players have ever worked with, ultimately, we don't know. But I do feel more assured knowing there is another staff member there who has been around a few clubs. That's just me personally.

but that is total guess work and with the right backroom staff can easily be addressed. We have a far better option now than we ever did.

Why does he need to lead sessions? There are many coaches at the club who can do this. You point (as per usual) is irrelevant anyway in this instance. Jobi McAnuff has managerial experience and coaching experience.
