NathStPaul RoyalBlue It's quite clear that Paul Ince is a great motivator but we have seen in the past that there is only so far you can go with that. You have to have the coaching and tactical ability to go with it.
Have Ince and his current coaching team got sufficient ability in that area? That would be my one concern. If they haven't, I could foresee the wheels starting to come off again part way through next season if he is given the job.
Think it is a good point about the current coaching team. We really need to improve the team around him imo, personally would like to see someone like Jobi McAnuff come in as his assistant.
Is McAnuff significantly better than what we've already got though? A bit more managerial experience at senior level than our current coaches, true, but I think we need an experienced coaching team who have been about 2/3 different clubs at this level recently to really help the squad. I've got no problem with McAnuff, I'm just not sure he's the one with the relevant coaching experience right now.
The problem is a lot of coaching staff tend to follow managers around from job to job and will move where they go. We've had a bit of a scratch coaching team for a while now, where we've had 1 member of staff from 1 manager, another from another manager and so forth. I think if we change manager, we need a full clear out in coaching staff ultimately so that a new manager can bring his own staff. In fairness to Ince, he alluded to this in the early stages when he appointed as interim.
I'm sure he will know some people who can come in and do the necessary, but I think we need 2, possibly 3, new coaches/staff members around him. Either that, or we keep it as it is but bring in 1, potentially 2, new staff members to assist the current set up we have. I'd personally keep one of Gilkes/Mikele in the first team, probably the former, and have one back in the U23/U18 set up, just to allow the first team staff to be filled with a couple of experienced, quality coaches.
