If I were their sporting director I would be indentifying the best players at the lesser Premier League teams who work hard and can make United more solid. A few names who would fit this bill are the likes of James Tarkowski, James Ward-Prowse, Yves Bissouma, Ruben Neves, Tyrick Mitchell. Build the base and then look to bring in a star striker. It is essential they bring in the sort of players who will run through brick walls for the club.

Depends on how United is going to play. Maguire is way too slow to play a high line so the rest of the team can push up. They need a defender with pace. McFred wouldn't get in most prem midfields.

I don't think the Premier League is direct enough for him, there is less urgency to get the ball up top. Great finisher but I just can't see him getting the freedom he does in the Championship. Can certainly see him scoring more than he did in his previous Premier League season though.

Said for a while now that Mata has been underused by United for a couple of seasons now. Obviously a one off game against Brentford isn’t entirely justification for it (although they have been on good form recently) but not sure how much a coincidence it is that United put in one of their best performances (possibly their best) in the one game he’s started

He is of course physically slow but makes up for it with a quicker brain than the rest of the United squad with his touch and movement. Not sure how much use he’d have been against top teams but in games like tonight, perhaps he’s shown he’s been unlucky to feature so little with such mediocre performance from Rashford and co
