Yeah, imagine being a 30 year old man and still getting shouted at by your dad for not doing everything he says.
Depends on what their relationship is like and whether they'd want that to be affected by working together. As much as you think it'll be easy to separate the personal and work relationships the lines will blur and it might not be something they want to do more long term.

Yeah, imagine being a 30 year old man and still getting shouted at by your dad for not doing everything he says.
Depends on what their relationship is like and whether they'd want that to be affected by working together. As much as you think it'll be easy to separate the personal and work relationships the lines will blur and it might not be something they want to do more long term.


On the basis that this is the third time they have been at the same club together and Ince Senior has always been hugely supportive of Ince Junior you’d think they get on just fine.

I have said this before if not Paul Ince, I’d go for Liam Manning at MK Dons. I guess if they get promoted he wouldn’t want to come here. I have heard him interviewed on several occasions and he really reminds me of Eddie Howe. I believe he could be a great fit for us especially if we go down the route of signing young hungry players on loan or from Div 1 and 2 etc.

I would imgine we can offer one but he won't be short of offers, he can do better financially. Think he'd be happy here though.


The Inces could make an appealing double signing for struggling championship teams that have more money than us to spend (basically everyone).


I don't think Tom was as good as he is now since Paul came along and I think we're getting more out of him now than he'd offer anywhere else without his dad being manager.

Part of me wonders if Tom was in some way instrumental in our (relative) success under Paul Ince, whether by genius design or (more likely) just luck. A massive problem was the lack of the togetherness and fight in the squad. Having one player absolutely guaranteed to play his guts out to get his dad a return to management has had a large impact on the rest of the team I'm sure as they all seem to have upped their game. And knowing a player in the squad is the top man's son probably helps too as no-one will be messing around with the manager's son among them.

But yes a double signing would be a good shout for some. However, if that's the case much as I like them both I wouldn't be too fussed.

We aren’t permitted to pay out transfer or other fees. That rules out appointing a manager under contract I would imagine (I’d also think it would be a daft use of resources)

No, the full ruling disallowed paying fees and offering multi year contracts this season. Next season we can but do both but only if it keeps us within the agreed business plan. So in reality, we will only pay a fee if, for example, we get the 5m in for Puscas and that is not in the plan. EFL would still need to ratify of course.

You are right though, I just do not see us paying any compensation for a currently employed manager. If we change Ince, it will be for someone who is currently out of work or an internal promotion.

Do you have a link for the full ruling ? The statement on the EFL website from November actually doesn’t prevent us paying fees or compensation at all. It just says they have to be at a level agreed with the EFL which presumably could be zero or could vary at any time depending on our financial progress. Likewise there seems no reference to multi year contracts. We can extend contracts within the general cost limits and subject to EFL sign off. There is no public version of the agreed business plan that I can see.

Key point is:

The Club and EFL have agreed a cap on Total Player Salary Costs of not more than £21.1m in the
current Season, reducing to £16m in the following Season (Championship status), with a number of
other conditions, including:
3.1 the Club will be permitted to have registered at any one time no more than 25 Permitted Players;
3.2 the Club will not be permitted to pay or commit to pay any Transfer Fee, Compensation Fee or
Loan Fee or any other form of payment (other than a sell on fee) in respect of the registration of
any Player in excess of the level as agreed with the EFL;

3.3 the average Salary of all new Contract Players registered from the date of this Agreement until
30 June 2023 will not exceed an average of the level as agreed with the EFL;
3.4 the Salary of any new Contract Player registered from the date of this Agreement until 30 June
2023 will not exceed the level as agreed with the EFL;
3.5 any contribution to fees paid to an Intermediary by the Club on the behalf of a Player will be
limited to 3% of the Player’s Basic Gross Income (as defined in the FA Regulations on Working
with Intermediaries);


The bolded bit does not stop us from spending money on transfers but only to a level the EFL stipulates. That level may of course be zero but that is not defined in the ruling.

If it is zero, then that will make loans very tricky i.e. we are relying on good relations with the loaning club and likely only get a player for free in return for them playing X games but it could also make signing players like Zach Robinson tricky, as given he is under 24 Wimbledon would be due compensation even if the transfer is free - we may not be able to pay that if the agreed limit is 0.

There is no limit on contract length and the wording above seems to suggest that the EFL can only have a say on wages next year, so we could offer deals that are worth say 6k next year but then 10k pw from 1st July 2023.
