Assuming we renew everyone I’d like to except Swift, sell/get rid of Moore and Puscas, and don’t receive acceptable offers for McIntyre, Joao, Meite and Ejaria, this is the sort of squad I see us having at the start of next season:

Southwood, Jokull
Yiadom, Abrefa
McIntyre, Dann, Holmes, Dorsett
???, ??? (Potentially Bristow/Samuels/Tetek/Abrefa)
Rinomhota, Laurent, Tetek, ???
Ejaria, ???, Osorio
Meite, Hoilett, Azeez, ???, Scott
Joao, ???, Melvin-Lambert

Camara, Abbey, and hopefully Boyce-Clark get League Two loans, Clarke, Kelvin E., and a few others get loans wherever they will actually play.

Could keep Camara around to cover for Ejaria and be the fourth winger, although I think a loan would do him more good, or get someone like Hutchinson. Would then need a senior left back (annual Osei-Tutu suggestion), reserve midfielder (Azeez Jr.?), second choice striker (Liam Delap?), and perhaps a second left back.

Still a few spaces in the allowed squad as I’m fairly sure Dorsett , Osorio, Abrefa and Melvin-Lambert would not count having not started 3 games at Championship level. Of course not filling those spaces withmore expensive players might be sensible to save money and allow for strengthening later in the season.

Centreback looks very problematic.

McIntyre is always a biscuit away from 3 months out, Dann is mid 30s and frequently not fit, both them plus Holmes are all slow and Dorsett hasn't ever started a Championship game.

We'd very quickly be down to Holmes, Dorsett as our only options.

Agree - Get Reading really need to do better.

Would help if they had a journo who actually had an affinity with the club.

I cannot remember a worse Reading FC journo, he even makes Dellor look good

Yeah the McNulty stuff is dreadful. As if we would renew his contract when he has been surplus to requirements for years.

Agreed, it is a pretty crazy question. Moore and Puscas? Fair enough, they’ve actually played a lot of games over the last couple of years but I don’t think we could’ve been any clearer in the fact we don’t want McNulty.

Tbf it's had the desired effect as y'all are talking about it and it's probably had a lot more clicks than most of his articles. Straight out of the talksport clickbait manual.

Does J Low still report for Get Reading? I thought it is some trainee jurno who puts his name to Reading FC news these days.

I think it’s been discussed that we really don’t need to be signing players at the end of their career on daft money.
If we are going to get a middle aged forward in I’d go for Andy Carroll over Austin any day.

At risk of going full Snowball, G+A-PK/90 of centre forwards this season at Reading, QPR (Austin’s club), and West Brom (Carroll’s new club)

Andre Gray: 0.6
Lucas Joao: 0.6
Karlan Grant: 0.49
Andy Carroll (Reading): 0.46
Lyndon Dykes: 0.42
Charlie Austin: 0.29
Andy Carroll (West Brom): 0.26
George Puscas: 0.13

I think the difference between the two Carroll numbers shows the importance of systems. Not sure we’d be a better fit for Austin than QPR, but tend to agree that I’d rather get Carroll back.

Yeah not a chance is it worth tying McNulty down, he's the least of our concerns and to be honest, given what he's said about the club, he would potentially go to a League One club over us anyway.

I'd probably rather Carroll than Austin, but can see the logic in either, just depends on wages really above all else. If we can get either on low-mid wages (for what we can offer), then I'd accept either.

Charlie Austin is going to sign this summer. You heard it here first.

Just checked out his career stats. Hasn’t started 20 league games in a season since 2014/15.

Very good goal return previous couple of seasons, but down to ok this one.

15(19) - 5 (1)
19(2) - 8 (1)
18(16) - 10 (2)

Judging by his minutes played he sub appearances have been short and his starts often involve being taken off.

May be a player we couldn’t expect to get full games from, or 2/3 games a week out of. Given our wage restrictions and the limit that puts on squad size, not sure we can really afford players who aren't reliable for getting a full season out of them.

Of our currently confirmed players, Dann, McIntyre, Joao and Meite all have a habit of missing a lot of games. That leaves Southwood, Ejaria, with Moore not wanted and with some long standing injury issues and Tetek having struggled for fitness this season. Probably missing someone.

Austin is too small. We should get Simon Church out of retirement instead.

Just an observation from Saturday - clearly Laurent was saying goodbye and interestingly i thought the same of Holmes too. Reckon he is off.

Would be a decent bench option for a big man/little man combo with Joao if we are trailing in a game.
