Very good news about Clarke and I hope to see him given more of a chance in the first team this season.

I would really like to see new first team players announced soon to give them time to gel with the rest of the squad. I’d imagine Bowen/Ince will make a decision about the trialists after the Benfica game. It’s a bit galling that we have wasted part of our strict budget on a keeper that we don’t really need. I guess we can’t send Lumley back to Boro now?

Can prob only make that call on Bouzanis later in the season as to whether we needed him or not

Still expect Southwood to go out on loan

Hope the next announcement is a season long loan for Clark in Div 1 or possibly to Ireland. Thinking he could do a job in the Championship is wildly optimistic. He’s 5th in line probably….

Can see him and Azeez being loaned out together.

Even L2 I'd be satisfied with, obviously the higher level the better of course but it just depends who would be in for him, I could see a bottom L1 club or top L2 club being interested.

Agree, do think it's a bit too optimistic to throw him in consistently at this level at the moment.

I know what you mean but given our injury record and because of the restrictions we’re under I can see both Clarke and Ehib making first team appearances next season. I am basing that on having Joao, Meite and possibly Wickham or Long as our striking options. I’d be disappointed if we end up loaning out Azeez, Clarke and Ehib.

Yeah if we only have 3 first team striking options, that's assuming Meite will be used as a striker as well, then I'd imagine we would keep one of them around at least, there is still the U23's to think about in the case of Clarke and Ehib as well where 1 will almost certainly be guaranteed starts every week in that league and impressing there can mean a transition to the first team squad as well.

Wouldn’t loan out Clarke or Ehib. Both fine in the u23s and chances off the bench when required

Clarke's deal is for 2 years with an option of a third.

blythspartan Talk of Derby wanting Wickham.

And another account said we were about to sign him. What will be will be at this point but given he has been with us for 10 days or so, I would assume that if we want him, he'll sign for us. Unless Derby haven't learnt and are throwing relatively silly money at players.

Melvin-Lambert will be ahead of both of them and has done his loan spell/

I agree about what will be will be. I am not really too fussed about Wickham tbh. There are pros and cons about taking on trialists and the obvious con is that you help get them fit for 2 - 3 weeks and then another club comes in for them.

I am positive about next season but it’s getting to the point where we need to see several signings for the first team this week/next week. There is a danger of trying to be too smart about the process and ending up with nothing.

Did I see Sam Smith's on the move to MK Dons potentially? Pleased for him working his way back up again, shame we let him go for free but hindsight will always be 20-20, a nice phrase of mine.

But someone at that level would be acceptable for sure.

He had a great attitude when he played for us. Worked really hard and terrific movement.

Never really had the quality in front of goal though and didn't really show it, granted inconsistent appearances and minutes didn't help much, a tidy finish in the FA Cup in our 3-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday though (may have gone down as an own goal).

If we sold him on for a fee, would have been worth putting a sell on clause and/or buy back price on him. A few players who end up going down to L1 level from our academy end up working their way back up. Dickie, Fosu etc.

It occurs to me that the youth players that we have given a proper chance in the first team over the years have a much higher success rate than the ageing 'superstars' we've brought in.
