IF he cut out the errors he could be an asset. But he was still making them under Ince, especially at the end. He couldn't sustain his improvement for long.

How much is he going to continue to enjoy football in a relegation fight?

What happens if Ince goes because we struggle? Quite likely...

He wasn't popular here, even if he starts well, it won’t take long for the stadium to turn on him, and turn hard, with bad performances.

Putting aside that I think he was shit, he's a very risky signing with too much baggage imo.

paultheroyal Positive twist on Long rumours. Will know more early next week. But conversations are taking place. I know this contradicts what I earlier said, but there have been developments.

Do you mean QPR have said no ?

its more that through choice, he would love to come here - but we are miles off wage expectations - i dread to think what is going on behind scenes and how any shortfall can be overcome - but they are looking at how he can be paid more.

Stranded Just mention it here too, mentioned on UR&G but looks like Danny Drinkwater is with the squad at the moment. May just be training with us but could be that he may return.

Yep Jnr mentioned he has been photographed with TMac.

https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... best-years

Interesting interview with Drinkwater - admits that he wasn't benefiting the team much in the first few months and was really struggling, thought he couldn't hack it. Ince coming in gave him a bit of a spark and he enjoyed his football for the first time in years. Says he has a few offers out there, so could be we are an option - though in no way expect to see him back but if he is starting to enjoy his football again then he will be an asset for someone.

That’s an honest interview and he acknowledges how poor he was for a long time. He did get it together though and would start the new season in much better shape. No problem in seeing him return if wages are realistic.

This is the concern I have. It’s a shame if he can’t return. Surely at 35 he has earnt enough to be secure. Even if we can only offer him £6k a week that £300,000 a year. We cannot pay too much here.

To be honest, I'm not sure he is as much of a risk now, knowing he was enjoying his football here, he was playing well and he regularly mentions Ince and the staff as part of the reason why he enjoyed playing again here.

He's obviously built up his reputation and has a divide amongst the fanbase, so I understand many would use him as the scapegoat almost immediately, but we could do a lot worse, particularly when many of us are asking for continuity, the one thing I'd ask for would be to bring back somebody who has performed well in recent times for us, which he has done in the main.

Agree with the parts about Ince going and not being popular though.

He’s a very good tackler for a start. The best in the side last season imo. He did improve and had some good games. Fitness was a huge issue last season. We could all see that and bizarrely Pauno never used to sub him. Fitness shouldn’t be an issue next season.

He was a good tackler for his good 5-10 games. The rest, no, not really. Early on he simply couldn't get there to make a tackle, though you can possibly excuse him that based on these tidbits.

Rino a better tackler, McIntyre a much better tackler. Yiadom too.

Agree with that. If we can get him up to speed like we did towards the back end of last season, he will be a good player for us. Mentioned it yesterday but he can do Rino's job better than what Rino himself can, despite being different players, in my opinion anyway.

Think DD would be pretty low risk, sounds like he has the hunger and improved as his fitness did. Prob want a 2 year contract mind you which would make him less appealing

Thought he was one of our better midfielders last season overall. Prob something like

Swift > Ince > DD > Laurent > Ejaria > Rino > TDB in terms of positive contribution

Yep, can't imagine other teams will be lining up to pay him much more than that.

Random new "ITK" account on Twitter has said that is what he has signed and Troy Parrot is joining on loan. Naturally taking it as bollocks currently.

Zip's Fornah done deal not materialised yet, though I guess you'd probably expect it more around 11 than this early.

Reckon they might do it tomorrow before the Benfica game kicks off. The club have just announced that they are putting the game on Royals TV for free so it would be a good way of getting a few extra views if they hype a new signing on the day of the game.

Possible, but we do have a habit of announcing signings mid to late afternoon, so could well be today still.

They will have to pixelate the trialista faces, they aren’t allowed to play in public games legally so will need to be totally anonymous.
Obviously Drinkwater won’t be pixelated as he’s anonymous in most game anyway.

Was that just a set up for the lame joke?

As we certainly did play trialists in friendlies last year that were open to the public
