That's a fair point. Given a choice of 2 aging, injury prone ex Reading forwards, I'd definitely take Long over Wickham

If Long coming back can have a similar impact as Jason Roberts then it will be a worthwhile deal.

Huge difference in the quality around him though. Would imagine he'd do well playing with Joao. Even if Long has lost a yard of pace, he will still be quicker than the majority of defenders in the league. Joao winning the first header and getting Long in behind could be a go to ploy.

It could galvanise the team from top to bottom. The youngsters could learn a lot from him and if he chips in with a goal or 5, no one would say no to that.

The impact of him choosing to come here, possibly turning down more lucrative offers, could be significant. Combine this with having the two Toms we’d have a good core of people with genuinely love for the club and I don’t think you can underestimate the importance of that. Of course you need more than that otherwise you could add PTR, South Coast Royal, Ian, myself and endless others to the squad but to have players for him it’s about more than just money can only be a good thing.

And Long winning the first header for Joao to get on the end of would be an equally good option....

Talking in relative terms obviously, not taking a good team and making them a very good one. But if Long can help galvanise a side so as to avoid a relegation battle this year then it's worthwhile.

If Long were to join presumably we don’t buy Adeboyejo too. Different types of players but surely with Joao, Long, Meite, Azeez and Clarke we would have enough (assuming Puski is off).

To be honest, I'd probably take both and possibly give Clarke a loan deal out somewhere for a season to continue his development.

Long would be a great signing, an upgrade on Puscas and could mean we could hopefully get money for Puscas that could maybe mean in Jan/Summer we have finally balanced the books and can be free of the league having to approve every deal we make. He has a fantastic attitude and would no doubt dig deep to help us in what would be a difficult season.

I agree - if Long takes the role we offered Wickham and Adeboyejo then this makes sense. If we still pursue those 2 then we are stocking our team with mediocre signings. If Puscas is off - then hopefully we look at a better calibre LB / CM by using a % of his wages.

Fulton would certainly be one who I’m sure we could persuade if we can pay near what he’s on at Swansea

Wouldn’t be fully against Adeboyejo if he was very cheap relatively. Wickham certainly not if we pick up Long

According to Planet Swans Fulton is on £16k a week. We would need them to still pay a fair amount of his wages.

Yep - maybe we could get up to about 12k if we lost one of our higher earners in Puscas - who is I’m guessing on about 15-20
