I pointed out to him that it doesn't make sense as it's always away for someone and home for someone and the penny finally dropped for him. Apparently they did but as the rules keep changing every 5mins in rugby it's now away games first.

It's to do with the way the fixture list is laid out in rugby. A quirk that wouldn't work in football for obvious reasons.
