Royal_jimmy Surprised he's got a 4 year deal with us given his age. Should have been 3 years really max.

He's only just 29 though, so will be 34 at the time his contract runs out. Allows it to go one of two ways:
a) this is his last major contact with a Champ club
b) he does very well and we can sell him for £

Snowflake Royal We shouldn't be committed to a big wage, but its too long for his age, pedigree and our circumstances.

4 is one year too many but length of deal is our only bargaining chip at the mo and if he fits in well, no reason to think he won't be an asset for most, if not all, that time.
And if in those 4 years we progress past him, we should be able to shift him as he was part of a successful side.

CountryRoyal We won't be paying him much and by the end of his contract he will be 33 which is not old by any means for a CB, especially one who's game doesn't rely on pace.
I know it's only one game, but after today looks another terrific bit of business.

Snowflake Royal Apart from the fact it commits us to still be paying him in four years when he may no longer be up to being part of the squad.
Four year contracts should be about protecting your resale value in younger players potentially on the up.

Probably best to stick to our current circumstances rather some theoretical scenario.
He ‘May’ not be ‘up to’ being part of the squad but he equally may be a cornerstone.
And if the 4th year is essentially a free year anyway it’s not an issue.
If he’s not part of the squad we simply pay off his contract which leaves us in exactly the position we would have been had we paid him more money but over 3 years.

tidus_mi2 Makes me wonder who is making the decisions, you'd think the club might wait on contracted player outgoings until the manager is in place, unless we do have a manager in place who has decided he doesn't want Naby Sarr.
Well whatever, he's gone.
