Theo Walcott is another name to throw in - local lad - family from Thatcham i think - literally no game time now - but £85k a week wages an issue unless Saints sub it all.

Whist we are at it - wouldn't mind Nathan Redmond - he has fallen off the radar at Southampton. Quality player. One of the few players i have on my list who single handily destroyed us in a match - only 28.

That would certainly be one that fits the surprising aspect. Though imagine his only likely destination is the Championship, so Soton will most likely be subbing all or the vast majority of his wages.

Compton isn’t he ?
Suspect having Shane here might be a useful connection if he is the man

A lot of his game was about pace and at 33 now he’s not going to be quite the player he was. Still reckon he could cause more than enough issues for opposition defences at this level of the game though.

Only question then would be which of the loanees gets left out of each matchday squad (but then Reading’s ongoing injury problems would probably resolve that fairly easily).

Still think Andy Carroll would be the best fit of any strikers Reading could bring in though.

I doubt it will be Walcott seen as Ince has said that loan signings are looking unlikely now - although that would fit the surprise narrative at least. I wouldn't mind Walcott, just don't see it happening.

Is that Ian Royal to his right, looking shocked at this marquee signing?

Perhaps Saints would pay up his contract (assuming he'd not in their plans) and he'd do a Shane and come play for a reduced wage. Reported he's turned down Cardiff for personal reasons which presumably would be down to not wanting to relocate.

Silver Fox Loving the Vydra suggestion, if only because Tim Dellor might actually explode

Oh, I would love that.

I too, would explode. Hands down the second worst player to ever pull on the shirt.
