Probably that Ainsworth is any more ‘up and coming’ than Ince.
Ainsworth has done 10 comfy years at a decent lower division club with fairly limited aspirations.
He’s got a nice life, he’s got a well paid job for as long as he wants it. I reckon Ainsworth (quite sensibly) knows where he is well off.

Ince has now been in charge for half a season's worth of league games:

P 23 W9 D3 L11

Rounds up to a 60 point season - which given the absolute mess of a club he came into is not too bad at all.

Paul Ince has won 7 of his first 11 home league matches for Reading; the last manager(s) to win more was Mick Gooding & Jimmy Quinn in 1995

Agreed.

Not too bad is understating it a lot. Prior to joining us we'd gone on a run of no wins and just 3 points from 11 games.

He had a rather lacklustre end to last season with 4 points from the last 6 games, including 4 defeats. But, we had made ourselves basically safe before we let the season fart out with a whimper.

When you consider his tenure includes two runs of back to back to back defeats, he's done bloody brilliantly.

Especially given the state of the club management, finances and injuries.

Will it continue? Who knows... probably not. But he's been pretty amazing for just appointing one of the player's dads to see us through a hole.

Good comments from him again today

Good structure, be strong and powerful. Be able to play long when necessary but not just be a hoofball team. Perfect for me
