also read today that the PL clubs are discussing the scrapping of FA Cup 3rd & 4th round replays, League Cup to be either scrapped or made into an under 21 comp for the top teams, and parachute payments to be reduced. The aim is to free up the top teams to play more overseas games

More nails for the coffin. And why? Let’s completely stuff football in England down the toilet so all the big clubs can play more games utterly meaningless games in Europe and before you know it the European Super League is back with us.

And don’t forget a 2 week Xmas break where, yet again, the bid clubs will jet off everywhere to play even more meaningless friendlies. What happened to the “better for the game as there’d be more rest for players” argument?

I am at a point of not really giving much of a sh*t if the big clubs make these changes to benefit them. I can see there being 2 different footballs to watch :

'elite' with all its overseas games, glamour, money etc,

and the rest, which will be more affordable and more competitive.

Any change to league cup either my removing the 7 or so clubs in Europe or making it a glorified Papa Johns Trophy for them will kill it. That is clearly the plan but they don't want to come out and say it.

Whilst you know that in most instances you are going to get a reserve side, is it really going to be attractive to a Stevenage fan to draw Liverpool u21s - at least if you draw Liverpool now, you know you may get a few names starting/on the bench even if the bulk of the side is kids.

No issue with replays going, they seem a bit old-fashioned now and simply give the bigger club a second chance - smaller clubs will likely cause more shocks if games go to pens - could even scrap Extra Time for the amount of good that normally is.

All in all though this is just a grab by the bigger clubs to clear enough gaps for them to player more high profile games - why play Morecombe when you can play Milan?

The move to a "soft cap" on player expenditure whilst makes sense is also just a means to an ends to stop any new clubs disrupting the top 5 or 6 sides. Whilst it would still be doable for a club like Newcastle to break in with clever recruitment and coaching, it will become much tougher for any side coming into the PL, to establish themselves and even consider doing a Leicester.

Mbappe refused yesterday to take part in a photoshoot with the French national team. He said he wanted to control his image rights with the national team rather than just being made to be in photos. He also said he wants the players to have involvement in deciding the sponsors for the national team. The French FA then said they had agreed a new contract with international players and Mbappe was happy to be in their photos

Expect the same to happen with our boys I reckon

Fifpro have been talking to footballers who want to own and control their data, and as such they have launched a Charter Of Player Data Rights

Could potentially have a knock on effect to what the media can say and report on players, along with websites that have stats & data on players

EFL discussing if they allow clubs to move Saturday games to an earlier kick off slot - say 1pm during the winter months to allow games to be completed in daylight and thus saving on electricity costs.

If brought in, changes to KO time would need to be agreed by both sides and communicated early enough to allow fans to make plans accordingly.

Some non-league divisions have already brought this is.

Think they did something similar back in 1973/4 when the last energy “mess” arose.

Seems reasonable and while meaning earlier starts for fans, many will be able to get back for a Saturday night out.

Wonder if the 12.30 televised game might be shifted to 10.30 in the morning.

I'd cautiously welcome it, much as I like a few beers before the game that will still be possible with planning, but crucially it affords much longer after which is handy if you've got to get a train back from an away game.

Mansfield become the first EFL club to do this announcing their home game v Walsall on 15th October will be a 1pm kick off as a trial ahead of the clocks going back.

If anything it's the reverse - we did accept that. Why waste precious hours of daylight when you have perfectly good floodlights - until an energy crisis comes your way at least.

Bottom 2 go down as usual, then 2 clubs play off to avoid the final relegation place. Great viewing in the Premier League especially with all the money at stake.
