Feels underwhelming we're only 9 points above the relegation places considering we've won half our games

I think 52 points might be needed for safety this year

Nature of the league this season. We've lost more games than WBA.

Yup.

Does anyone have the league table after 16 games in 2012/13? When Leicester finished 6th with 68 points but Peterborough went down with 54

From what I can make out, after 19 games in the Championship in season 2012/13 the table looked like this….

    Club - P - Pts
  1. Cardiff - 19 - 38
  2. Crystal Palace - 19 - 37
    =======================
  3. Middlesbrough - 19 - 33
  4. Leicester - 19 - 33
  5. Millwall - 19 - 32
  6. Hull City - 19 - 32
    ——————————————
  7. Brighton - 19 - 31
  8. Watford - 19 - 30
  9. Nottm Forest - 19 - 29
  10. Huddersfield - 19 - 28
  11. Blackburn - 19 - 28
  12. Charlton - 19 - 27
  13. Derby - 19 - 27
  14. Burnley - 19 - 27
  15. Leeds Utd - 19 - 26
  16. Bolton - 19 - 25
  17. Blackpool - 19 - 25
  18. Wolves - 19 - 22
  19. Birmingham - 19 - 21
  20. Barnsley - 19 - 17
  21. Ipswich - 19 - 17
    =======================
  22. Sheff Weds - 19 - 15
  23. Bristol City - 19 - 13
  24. Peterborough - 19 - 13

Promoted at end of season
PO Winners at end of season
Relegated at end of season

Barnsley finished in 21st place that season on 55 points 1 point clear of relegation.
Millwall totally collapsed from the play off places and finally finished 20th on 56 points
Blackburn, Sheff W and Huddersfield finished 17th, 18th and 19th all in 58 points
Middlesbrough also tumbled down and finished 16th on 59 points with Blackpool
Ipswich recovered quite well and amassed 60 points in 14th

At the top, Leicester got the final play off position on goal difference from Bolton. Both clubs had 68 points.
Hull finished 2nd with 79 points, Cardiff won the title with 87. Watford finished 3rd on 77 points.

8 points between 14th and the PO places shows a really tight league that season, the points gap was 13 last season, 17 the season before that and in 2019/20 it was 14. We could see something similar this season where the gap is less than 10 points between those 9 teams.

32 points now which means Reading have averaged a point a game from their last 7 matches. If that can be maintained for the rest of the season the club should survive.

Next 3 games though are home to Swansea (on the telly :( ), a Friday night :( visit to Norwich and a trip to the Black Country “revival” that is WBA but at least that one is a straight 3pm kick off unfettered by TV. 3 points from that lot would have to be seen as a real success.

We probably need just 5 wins from 23 games to be safe, that will give us 47pts, add 4 or 5 draws and that should be plenty

It feels like there’s quite some concertina effect going on so I’m not so sure that 52 will be enough this year

Two points off the playoffs at this stage of the season and with a full squad back for the first time in two seasons and the bed wetter's are still worried about being relegated.

8 points clear of the bottom three in a much closer division than historically normal and with a very real possibility of losing a few players in January.
I could bury my head in the sand and just hope it all goes away

Whilst not causing a mattress issue, I reserve the right to maintain that anything above the bottom three will be. success

I don't think anyone in the bottom 3 come game 46 will have more than 50 points, so it should be enough.

Half a dozen more wins takes us there and I'm pretty confident we can get that. I think we will win 8 of our remaining 23 games, coupled together with 3/4 draws and that will be enough I think.

I don't think either of Rotherham or Huddersfield will get over 45 points and then it's going to be one from Blackpool, Wigan, Cardiff or Hull for me. Think Stoke and Bristol City will just about clamber away from any real danger.
