4. too much money being spent elsewhere on their Academy and ground improvements but then that has to be done to aid the club to be competitive at the highest level in the long term
5. Klopp does not have a plan B to fix things and just seems to keep changing formations and hoping. He hit upon a way to play in beating Man City but didn’t seem to retain that approach in the following games and consequently suffered two excruciatingly embarrassing (for them) results

The “utterly hopeless” is really an indicator of a season overall for Liverpool based on what we’ve seen so far, I don’t think Liverpool themselves are utterly hopeless, they’re quite obviously not, but mid- table in the PL with an overall trail of frankly cr@p results against the weaker sides doesn’t bode well.

It’s going to take some turn around from them now to even claim 4th place let alone anything better. Funnily enough the CL might be their hope to salvage something given their seeming affinity for that trophy but that’ll also take some doing, particularly being in the arse end of the round of 16 draw (but at least they’ll avoid Napoli, Chelsea, City and Spurs - best hope is probably Porto there). They are, I think, going to have strengthen in January which will be a challenge in itself.

So in their last six they have beaten Napoli, City, Ajax, West Ham and Spurs. And lost to Forest and Leeds.

Who knows what lies ahead for Klopp's team - they should have plenty to finish at least 4th and make a run at all three cup competitions. Pretty friendly fixture list now. Derby and Southampton before the World Cup, and then Villa, Leicester and Brentford immediately following - and with Mo Salah putting his feet up, and Diaz and Jota injured and expected back after the tournament. Should be five wins.
