Bit harsh - it's an interesting read. The thing that stuck out for me is just how ordinary the players on that list are - I can't imagine managers exactly champing at the bit to secure their signatures. A lot of average and probably overpaid players, with just a few gems sprinkled among them.

South Coast Royal Two for me:
Danny Ward from Huddsfield if Peter Pan Shane Long is finally feeling his age.
Alex Pritchard from Sunderland to be our version of Barry Bannan.

YorkshireRoyal99 Definitely a few on that list that would be useful for us to take a look at and I can imagine a vast majority on this list will be available considering the general need in the Championship to lower the wage bills of respective clubs in a lot of circumstances.
Will become more important come the end of the season, but no reason why we can't be having conversations with some of these players' agents now to try and agree terms come the end of the season.

Wouldn’t we be breaking EFL rules if we started talking to these players now ?

Not if we were just to try and gather interest I wouldn't have thought, should have worded it better though in terms of "agreeing terms" as I'm not 100% sure if we would be allowed to do that, although I'm not too sure to be honest.

I believe the rule is that you can’t discuss potential contracts with players who will be OOC in the summer until 1 month before their contract is up. Obviously talks happen, it’s a small world, people chat, agents have multiple players at different clubs. But it is against the rules , which is at least one good reason for not doing it too blatantly.
Not sure where Lumley comes into it, he is on loan !

But no reason as to why we can't at least talk with agents to see if they might be interested in a move at the end of the season, although I don't think it will be happening right now anyway, might be closer towards the end of their deals and the end of the season.
Yeah, we still had to agree a deal to get Lumley on loan, which the player/club said at the time of signing that talks were going on for about a month.

Yes, there is a reason. It’s against the rules ! I have no doubt that agents will be making phone calls but the rules don’t allow it officially.
Still don’t see the relevance of Lumley, loads of deals take a fair while to sort.

From Despair To Where? The thing with the Brentford model is that they "unearthed" Ollie Watkins for £2m and "unearthed" Ivan Toney for £5m + add ons.
A lot of their signings have been from Holland, Denmark, Belgium and France, which apparently is what we shouldn't be doing, according to a lot of our fans. All whilst dismantling their academy.
It would appear that the key to good recruitment is good scouting and pots of cash.
