Again, given the timing and the fact that the accounts for 21/22 are due today. I would be fairly confident that the breach relates to last season and has nothing to do with Bowen and the work he is doing now.

May be proved wrong but that seems the likeliest reason for the alleged deduction.

Orion1871 I wonder what the EFL will invent next season to try and relegate us.

This is absolutely a conspiracy and not at all the consequences of being badly run and massively overspending for a decade. And doing it so badly it didn’t actually make us perform well.

What we do have, suggests we've breached our business plan, which seemed primarily concerned with this season.

The FL having actively investigated and sanctioned us, they surely wouldn't be waiting on or surprised by anything in our published accounts for a period a year ago relating to last season.

https://www.efl.com/news/2023/march/efl ... eading-fc/

In November 2021, the EFL and Reading Football Club reached an Agreed Decision in respect of the Club’s failure to comply with the League’s Profit and Sustainability (P&S) Rules.

As part of the decision, the Club is required to comply with the terms of a Business Plan up until the end of season 2022/23. The plan focuses on a number of financial targets with the objective of improving the Club’s financial performance.

The League is currently reviewing submissions from Reading to determine whether compliance has been achieved.

There will be no further comment on the matter at this time.

Which suggests the process isn’t at at ‘6 point deduction’ yet at all.

If we've breached the agreed plan, we deserve the punishment. Its no more complicated than that is it?
After years of living beyond our means we should be grateful we've managed to survive as a league club. Yes, we'd all like to be super successful but if we hadn't overspent we'd probably have been relegated years ago so can hardly complain if that is the eventual outcome.

Reading facing 12-point deduction after latest breach of EFL rules

Martyn Ziegler, Chief Sports Reporter

Reading will be caught in a Championship relegation battle if they are docked the maximum 12 points

Reading are facing the threat of up to a 12-point deduction after failing to keep to the terms of a spending plan agreed with the EFL in 2021.

The Championship side were docked six points in November 2021 and had a further six points suspended on the basis that the club — who are 14th in the league table at present — kept to certain spending limits.

It is understood that some of the agreed limits have been breached and those suspended six points could now be incurred — with a possible further deduction of up to six points for the latest rule violation. If the full 12 points were deducted, it would leave Paul Ince’s team only one point clear of the relegation spots.

I seriously can't believe this, I thought the club was on a better footing and we were starting to become better run again. This is absolutely unacceptable if we've breached the business plan.

We'll definitely be under another embargo next season and we have no saleable assets to improve our books. Very concerned about this.

We must have done something very bad in terms of breaching if we were to be docked that many points

I’m particularly enjoying how all these journalists know we’ve broken rules and we are getting a 6, or is it 12, point deduction when the EFL are still reviewing the submissions.

At this stage it is all pure speculation until EFL or the club confirm anything.

Best just to wait and see before having a meLOLtdown.

Nameless
blythspartan FFS I love this club but this news has just extinguished the light in the tunnel.

It’s not news , it’s speculation.

Indeed, as now backed up by the EFL statement.

And I don’t believe a word of it! There now seems to be a competition of how many points we’ve already been deducted.

my understanding is we are not paying a penny for Rahman or Hendrick - the only caveat is they must start in 90% of games if fit.

Don't believe this for a second.

You might want to start believing it.

OK, EFL statement brings some clarity then.

They are reviewing our submissions as would always have happened. This review will dictate if the club get deducted more points or not, as would always have happened.

So think we can all calm down a bit until the review is complete and we are actually charged or found to be in breach.

And amazingly, Tim Dellor is the one journo who has said this. Everyone else is playing deduction bingo!

These journalists that are reporting have been fairly accurate when it comes to Reading and FFP. It is not unreasonable to be concerned at the situation and what it means for the club.

Certainly don’t disagree with this but not convinced the likes of Stoke or Bristol city haven’t done just as much wrong. Problem with it all being so ‘grey’

And obvs the cheats who avoid sanction due to getting promoted - Bournemouth, Vill, Wolves etc is infuriating

Not really…some of them were saying that we’d get 18 to 21 points deducted 18 months ago. I imagine there are some areas where the EFL want to look more closely, you’d expect that…but the speculation is ridiculous. The deduction could be 0.
