Many people were saying earlier in the season that 50 plus points would be needed to survive this term, now i reckon our current total could be enough.
But of course we may have a points deduction incoming, that said we would still be within touching distance of that mark.

Yep 7, equal with Wigan for the lowest.

They are also on a run of 1 win in 20 games - they won 6 of their first 16 and dropped off a cliff since then.

Just looking at the form table over the past 12 games - we've been awful in the main but this is the bottom of that form table:

20th Reading 9 points
21st Wigan 8
22nd Blackpool 7
23rd QPR 7
24th Huddersfield 7

So whilst we have been stinking the place out since the turn of the year we have actually increased the gap over the bottom 3 during that time.

If the bottom 3 take the form over the last 12 to the last 10

Wigan 39*
Blackpool 38
Huddersfield 38*

*Not including potential deductions

Our current form is good enough for 8 more points - so 54 (or 48 with 6 points off).

To get to a "safe" tally of around 48 - any of the 3 would now need to hit play-off form over the last 10 games - again without deductions in the case of Wigan and Huddersfield. Even getting to 42 would mean they have to improve their form twice over from around 0.5 PPG to 1 PPG.

Not impossible but unlikely.

At one point it looked like it might have been. West Brom occupied 22nd place after 20 games and had 23 points and Blackpool were 23rd with 23 points from 22 games (West Brom had played 2 games less at the time) so a couple of teams in the bottom 3 were averaging over a point a game.

Obviously that's not the case anymore, as some teams at the bottom do tend to drop off massively between sort of January, February and early March time before picking up as they fight for survival. Not sure if that will happen this year as the bottom 3 really aren't that good and aren't exactly within touching distance of the teams above either at the moment.

No of course not.

But a meaningless sanction is better than no sanction, and more proportionate than a fine of points deduction. And it could become meaningful eventually.

Whilst probably meaningless to Burnley, I would imagine that isn't the point.

Just something which triggers an automatic ban, whether you're 1st in the Champ or last in L2. They can't say:

"Yeah Burnley have broken this rule, but we're not going to apply this ban because they're really unlikely to sign anyone."

Yep, agree, but at the moment that's not the case. We can hope the hoola hoops do us a favour tonight by taking points off Blackpool.

Editing in here, McCarthy has said that Blackpool need points and they want to be within 4 points away before the international break and that could leave them optimistic. A double home fixture against QPR and Coventry, you've got think if they don't win either of those games, they are gone.
