Ince presser in a nutshell (paraphrase obviously): "It's the players' fault for making wrong decisions all the time."

Was Paul Ince on the pitch playing today ? One thing to train well. Another to perform when it really counts. Laughable that these guys are paid 6 figure salaries. In any other job they'd be sacked. All salaries should become performance related.

Franconian Royal To those who went / watched it: I’m told by Snr that 1st half we kept them at bay. What happened in the 2nd half that changed? Any chance of Ince quotes from presser?

1st half we were shite to begin with and then looked less shite as it went on but had a bit of luck on our side. We had nothing going forward despite Carroll and Joao up front. It was always a matter of time before they were going to score.

Second half nothign really changed much, was probably a case of them having a manager who knew how to react to games and us having Ince. Started poorly as the first half started and just got progressively worse quickly.

Ince presser in a nutshell (paraphrase obviously): "It's the players' fault for making wrong decisions all the time."

Thanks Millsy.
It seems like he’s trying to use a dark sort of reverse psychology in his pressers, which isn’t / doesn’t work. I can’t see the owner doing the right thing and getting rid of him.

retro royal Surely ask Brian to come back, with the help of Noel til the end of the season, I'm sure I remember Brian said he'd come back if the team really needed his help for free (Well expenses)

Possibly the worst post on here ever....in the history of everdom. Even worse than any of mine.....For you info Brian s battling depression and alcohol issues and you want to bring him back to this shitshow? Are you trying to drive him over the edge?.

Their salaries are performance related and negotiated at contract signature then there are win bonuses

RoyalBlue Maybe footballers are thick after all! Lumley has just said that they are all 100% behind Paul Ince and that he's a great bloke and a great motivator.

Yet in the very same set of interviews, Ince was throwing all of his players under the bus yet again, publicly decrying the lack of abilities of named players and not any accepting responsibility whatsoever for the dire position we're in!

Amazingly Lumley may not have been listening to the radio or been in the room with Ince

He should go round Ian's house.

Pointless sacking Ince now. If it was going to happen, it should have happened 6 weeks ago.

Don't think you don't get the depression thing.
He isn't well and was on BBCRB recently. He sounded awful and like he has a real battle on his hands not just with depression but alcohol. This job would kill him.

Millsy Without the deduction we'd be 5 points above the relegation zone.

But is that acceptable

1) with this squad
2) when you get yourself into a great position early on, and then produce consistently disastrous form for months
3) when you know there may well be another 6 points coming
4) when you decide to talk about dodging relegation when you're in the playoff spots and play accordingly
5) when you have absolutely no gameplan other than balls up the centre to Carroll
6) when there has been no improvement in our performances all season
7) when you are totally incapable of reading the game and making required changes in a timely manner?

I like the father and son team and appreciate them keeping us up last season and trying so hard this season.

But the answer to all of the above is no. No none of it is acceptable. To have any chance of staying up I agree we can't do worse than Bowen/Hunt/whomever.

I hope Ince has done enough to earn himself a job elsewhere but he's not the right man for Reading right now.

The question is, has Ince got the best out of any of the players? No. They've all got progressively worse under him. His son and Holmes started pretty well, but have been struggling this year.

Rahman is worse under him. McIntyre has fallen behind Holmes. NGW gets ignored. Loum has got worse through the season, as has Hendrick, Fornah, Hoilett, Sarr, Carroll etc etc.

Ince persists in picking a back three plus wingbacks, without playing centrebacks with any mobility. The wingbacks either stay back and we've got no width, or go forward and the centrebacks can't cover the channels. He plays strikers in combinations that don't work. He bypasses midfield entirely, with our early season tactics being run it forward at breakneck pace using Ince, and latterly hoofing it at Carroll's head with no support. He ignores the young players who actually demonstrate some positivity and creativity like NGW, Azeez, Abrefa, Ehibhatiomhan and Camara.

He finished last season badly. Ince constantly shows he hasn't got the first clue about the fundamentals of picking a Team and playing to a strategy consistent with that team's strengths.

I don't care what hand he was dealt, he's played it abysmally.

That might be right. It would, however, at least emphasise the point that he isn't blameless as he's continually claimed and continues to do so.

The last few games the team have shown they're capable of winning if you give them a fighting chance. There is absolutely a point in sacking him. He can't be here next season and a new voice with a brain could still get a tune out of the players in a game or two.

Even Clement picked up some points just by turning up after Stam got the boot.

That wasn't my point though. Of course it's unlikely that Lumley had heard Ince today but it matters not as he has done/said the same thing on numerous occasions previously.

My point is that I am staggered that the players could still be fully behind a 'manager' like that. Of course Lumley isn't going to come out and reply 'No we're not right behind him and indeed wanted him out some time ago'. However, he didn't just respond with 'Of course', he spoke for some time about how great Ince is and how much the players think of him and respect him!

Firstly, I wouldn’t read too much into what players say. Either similar to vote of confidence or just being a sensible professional.

Secondly you have to break some eggs to make an omelette. If everyone thinks you’re great and motivational yet you are playing crap as a team could it be that you’re actually not tough enough.

If I was managing staff who “don’t have the quality” and who “baffle me” and who “keep making the wrong decisions” as Ince says after pretty much every game then why the flying flamingo would I continue to give the impression I’m a great motivational bloke? Where’s the hairdryer?

I hear you, but it looks like relegation is a near certainty under Ince. So it’s at least worth a shot for the honeymoon effect if nothing else.

You'd have to be out of your mind to think a player would say anything else about their current manager. Especially the father of one of their teammates.

Paul Ince is facing the sack as Reading manager as the club battle to avoid relegation to League One.

The former England, Manchester United and Liverpool midfielder is on the brink of being dismissed after Reading’s drop into the bottom three of the table.

Reading have gone eight games without a win in the Championship and their alarming run was extended after a dramatic 2-1 defeat at Preston on Easter Monday.

After being deducted six points by the Football League last week, for the second successive season for breaching the Football League financial rules, Reading are locked in a grim battle to retain their status in the second tier.

It is understood that Ince’s future was discussed on Saturday by the Reading board after Friday's draw against Birmingham and patience is now running out.

The defeat at play-off hopefuls Preston leaves Reading a point from safety with five games remaining in the season.

Following the defeat at Preston, Ince said on BBC Radio Berkshire: "Unless you're going to change something or bring someone else in...I'm not sure what's going to change. It's not like the lads are not fighting or playing for me, you see that. Everyone is frustrated.

"At the end of the day, we are in this position that we've been put into (the six-point deduction). You need to think about that when you think about how unfair that is to me and the players.

“We lack the character to see out games. I said to them, 'if I'd have been playing in this team, I'd have been right on it and you wouldn't have got away with some of the things you do.' We all make mistakes but the decision-making can't always come from me."

Reading return to league action on Saturday with a home match against Burnley, who clinched their return to the Premier League last Friday night.

And Parky goes from strength to strength, Wrexham 3 Notts County 2 three points clear with a game in hand now with 103 points our proud record is about to be trashed. How about starting a petition to bring Phil Parkinson back as a manager? teamed up with Mad Dog Allen wow the sparks would fly.
