International fan base

by Winston Biscuit » 14 Apr 2023 12:24

Do we have any significant fanbases outside of Britain? If so then where in the world are they? have the club ever put any efforts into creating fan bases abroad?

just interested to know. thanks for your time.

Warm Regards,
Winston T Biscuit esq.

There was a decent US contingent, but I imagine that has waned with the loss of Hahnemann, Convey, Williams and Miazga.

There’s a fan in Germany I think and I hear there’s even a fan in Wokingham.

I used to think you were sound but thinking there's a fan in, of all places, Wokingham
You're having a laugh

Watched my first game back in 1979 at home to Crewe on a freezing cold Friday night. Been hooked ever since :D :D left home and did 24yrs in the Army and now live in the Mountains in Southern Alberta, Canada.

Still a crazy fan and get up at 7am every Saturday to watch the game on Reading TV.

I remember in the early 90s we had a fan from Cameroon who was a fan of our “carpet football” at the time. I bet his spirits have been raised by the prospect of the end of Carrollball.

:D :D Did my time in BATUS lol, that's what got me hooked on the Canada idea. Born and bred in Tilehurst and loved my time in Reading, however, now I'm living in a small rural mountain town i wouldn't want it any other way :D

I once saw a local guy (presumably) in Thailand wearing a Reading shirt, at the end of 2007.

In truth, there's little point even trying to raise the club's profile abroad. Overseas, if you aren't one of there elite, nobody is interested.

You get the likes of Rangers & Celtic claiming they have massive worldwide fanbases abroad, but it's virtually all ex-pats or their descendents.

Was in Kenya with the military and we all wear our football shirts on downtime in the camp. Its tradition at the end of the tour to give away our jerseys to the local Kenyans.
So somewhere in downtown Nanyuki in Kenya there is a little Kenyan dude running around in a 1990s Reading away shirt :D :D :D :D

I remember we went on a pre-season tour to South Korea to increase our fan base there. We did have Son playing for us at the time which helped.

There is a second RFC supporter in Lux. She is from Tilehurst like me ftmfw. Norcot primary school ( RIP) , unbelievable.

I am president, she is treasurer of the RFC Lux Branch.

We may swap roles this spring, to spruce things up/ attract further members.

That's a real shame, a 14 year old HMS would have been brilliant - and we'd have been able to gain a few quid from selling him
SKH wasn't quite as good
