yeah the unknown Scottish League, European Cup Winners cup, Supercup winner and Scottish PFA player of the year .

Who was recommended to the chairman by his ex boss the unknown Alex Ferguson.

He had NO MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCE.... sigh. He was an UNKNOWN ENTITY as a MANAGER.

So a very well known and decorated Scottish footballer who came with a recommendation from possibly the greatest British manager ever but he had no previous management experience.

Got it.

Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney, some of the best players of their generation, not very good managers.

This is it, if you have someone like a Ferguson or Klopp or Guardiola recommending an unknown then you take notice. When it's johnny agent then you should take it with a pinch of salt.

How highly regarded was Paul Clement?

Ditto:-

Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles ,Gary Neville etc., etc.
There is no set blue print for the ideal manager.

I thought he was a terrible choice. And when he first did an interview I was convinced. He was a shit thick as pig shit.

There are those who make it, how many of the current crop of Champions League winners won the Champions League as players?

Guardiola, Anchelloti

https://www.sportingnews.com/in/soccer/ ... rcelona%20

Here are 7 that have done it, that's the last manager to win, the 2020 final winning manager lost the final as a player, 2016-2018 was Zidane, Luis Enrique the year before that hasn't won it as a player but was a top player... so...

The point is there's no clear obvious thing that decides whether a player will become a top manager or not, it can happen, most of the time it fails.

Sometimes it's about take a pun on someone because you interview them and they come across as being the sort of person you'd want as manager.

Same with quite a few managers who managed to get a reputation but nobody knows how.

Yes agreed wholeheartedly but they weren’t unknown.

But were as managers. When Neville went to Valencia, who knew what they'd get?

Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard have had some success just not pulled up trees overly either.

But you don't. With hindsight it's easy, but at the time, who knew if he'd become the next best thing or not.

Zidane... who'd think he'd win the Champions League three times in a row, I still can't believe it, I'm still waiting for him to go to another club and absolutely mess it up.

"some success" being, none really.

Gerrard was at Rangers and did okay, finishing 2nd two seasons in a row, then winning the league one season before jumping ship. Van Bronckhorst then took Rangers to the final of the Europa League (and finished 2nd) Villa... well... Villa are much better off without him.

Lampard.... is now considered a joke of a manager.

Rooney doing average with Derby, WIth DC he's 8th in the eastern league and 12th overall. Finished 28th overall last season, 14th in the eastern league from a team that finished 16th overall and 8th in their league.

So, he made them worse, and now has them where they were two years ago.

Could have been worse. Could be Lampard... but...

Absolutely, but they're probably just looking at the betting and twitter frenzy, sadly I don't think they're any more ITK than anyone on this board.
