Anfield Royal Alan Nixon - "Reading have money for next season. Decent money."

No idea how he can know that, but it would be nice if true.

First magician I ever saw

   Based on recent years decent money for Reading would be >£1.00.

That thing we had to do to meet the business plan (not sell 12m of players) but failed to do so in time….does anyone know if we did it in the end?

Assumed it was something like Dai selling his share of the royal Elm Park nonsense to his mum or similar

Sutekh Not looking the brightest start to the close season is it? No Ince (Norwich bound for a cut price 50k), possibly no Hoilett (off to Hudds on a free) and still no manager.

Hoping for a press conference any month now though.

I think it's still too early to get in panic, several clubs still haven't appointed managers, not many signings are being made anywhere. I'd rather the club take their time and get the appointment right, properly scout out players etc.

Wouldn’t want Ince at the club anyway

Don’t mind a bit of attitude littered around but he’s a nasty individual. No good for morale and is his super inflated views of himself are ironic given he’s no better than a bang average Championship player himself

“Only creative player” - yes, that’s what tends to happen when you’re surrounded by seven defenders, Hendrick and a 7ft striker

Good question. My understanding was that we did it, thought it had met the business plan, then the EFL or their independent panel turned around and said, "no, that doesn't count".

think you’re over-egging the ‘petulance thing’ tbh, very few players emerged with much credit on that score (off field and behind the scenes according to my ‘source’ at the club)

Would love to have him with us to cut-up L1

As things appear to be playing-out, it’s pretty much irrelevant anyway.

South Coast Royal I wonder if our next manager will be the one to bring out the good player that is somewhere within Ejaria.

Presumably previous managers at Liverpool, Rangers and at Reading believed that they could it so it would be a real bonus for the club if the new miracle man can succeed where others have generally for the most part failed.

You are Joking, right?

A relief if true, giving him a 4 year contract was nuts

Interesting, thought he’d do ok on L1

Not a big loss particularly though. I think I seemed to catch him on his good games rather than his rubbish ones as he seemed to do ok when I watched. But not sad to see him go

Meh. Would have been a good player in League 1, but injury prone and was on a long contract for a player his age. Replace well and we're fine, and perhaps it opens the route for Dorsett

A big loss, would be a powerhouse in League one and no surprise we looked more solid defensively when he returned latter part of seasons and goals conceded dried up.

From what was looking like a decent squad of sorts putting us rightly second favourites to go back up, and no recent transfer activity other than "outs" - not sure i share anyone's optimism that we will have a top half team anytime soon.

We're not exactly short at centre-back, if there is a position for us to cut costs in then this is it.

Don't really know why we are having to cut costs so much! There is no FFP in Div 1 and although there is a restriction on wage/turnover, income can be increased by the owners putting in more investment I think, although not sure of the mechanics on how they do that.
Surely if the owners are still serious this is an ideal time to be spending money and bringing in the best players to get us out of this division as quickly as possible. If we can do that the we just have to avoid losing 39M over next 3 years.

But we are short of quality at centre-back.

Very true.

Can imagine him being on a few grand a week. Would much rather that money is spent on a younger, fitter player. Good move all round.

Current state of play with the squad

Currently contracted as of 1 July...

  1. Nelson Abbey
  2. Kelvin Abrefa
  3. Jokull Andresson
  4. Femi Azeez
  5. Dean Bouzanis
  6. Andy Carroll
  7. Mamadi Camará
  8. Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan
  9. Ovie Ejaria
  10. Sam Hutchinson
  11. Tom Holmes
  12. Tom Ince - heavily linked with a cut price (£50k) move to Norwich
  13. Tom McIntyre
  14. Andy Yiadom

New deals offered to Hoilett (also being linked with a move to Huddersfield), Amadou Mbengue and Yakou Meite.

Club therefore currently struggling to even to get a full 18 man squad for a match day now but it'll obviously change before 5th August.

Senga (til June 24), Clarke? Also Dorsett offered a new contract. NGW should be there as well, has an extra year
