Not having a manager in place may cost the club the ability to attract players they want as June is a key time for recruitment negotiations.

The Twitter idiots are putting 2 & 2 together.

Compassionate leave is usually for a death in the family or serious family issue that needs time away from work....

genome @cfridayjourno
Regarding the silence from senior figures at #readingfc recently. There are valid reasons, which i won't go into due to staff's personal sensitivities. However I am told things will restore to normal 'soon'. No exact timescale.

"Things will restore to normal soon"....so chaos and uncertainty then.

Would have though we want the club to keep clear of it's "normal".

Dellor confirming just now that Bowen is on compassionate leave due to a family bereavement, as would his son be.

And that is sad, but football operations don't come to a stand-still for a week or two's absence. This doesn't justify whatever is going on or not going on with a new manager.

But key aspects of it probably do. If Bowen is leading conversations with Wilder, for example, and were at a very crucial part of the negotiations and then Bowen's Dad passes away, so Bowen is out dealing with that, it is fairly natural that those conversations pause as a result.

The club are already working at relative bare bones in terms of structure and losing Bowen for an undefined period of time, will cause many cogs to slow or cease.

Absolutely, and anyone who thinks different are utterly deluded and somewhat selfish.

Best wishes to Bowen and family. and perhaps this pause has bided sometime for other areas to settle and we can push on when Bowen etc is ready too.

It’s a more than reasonable explanation for the delay. Imagine we’ll get some news and a number of things coming through next week - a new manager, news on the ooc players who were offered contracts etc

Whilst some of the operations themselves don't, some will have to do if there is nobody there to manage the work. Completely reasonable if someone is absent from work due to compassionate leave.

I don't have any issues with the club as it is when the person who is behind the football operations isn't there for that reason at the moment. Some stuff will just be on hold until Bowen is back in work.

And it might be something as simple as a signature on paperwork that will have to sit on a desk until whenever.

Oh they've already moved on to - well surely a company worth their salt has plans in place to have XYZ take on certain key tasks in the event of this happening.

Which is painfully simplistic yet not realistic.

Staff at the club equally as frustrated as the fans. No communication behind the scenes. An anonymous CEO who has no say in business operations. Dai calling all the shots. Left hand not talking to the right hand. What a shower of shit we are and it's all Dai's doing!

Sympathetic to Bowen, but if seemingly the entire operation of a multi-million pound company employing nearly 400 people rests on one individual then that's a massive problem.

A pub shuts if the landlord suffers a bereavement, a corner shop or fish and chip shop maybe, but a professional football club? Surely unprecedented at this level, and symbolic of a shambolic chain of command placing far too much responsibility at one level. We all knew Pang was a waste of space, but for the football operation to (allegedly) grind to a halt in the absence of one person is, frankly, scary - managerless or not.
