No one will sign for us (even those out of contract from last season) until they know who our manager will be.

Pepe the Horseman Y'all have lost your damn minds.

N'ah - I'm just looking at it logically and can see why those making the choices would see him being a fit. Again not that I want him or think he will be a success.

If appointed though, I won't throw my toys out of the pram and will support him until it goes tits up as per the usual cycle.

I'm just so tired of making excuses for these poor appointments. It literally happens every year. We make a terrible appointment then somehow convince ourselves there's logic to it.

Clement was shit at Derby and Swansea, but he's worked at some of the best clubs in the world, and he's meant to be a great coach, so maybe it'll work out here.

Gomes moves club every season and has never achieved anything, but actually, he's an amazing motivator, and he's meant to be a great coach, so maybe it'll work out here.

Pauno was a huge flop at Chicago Fire, but he won the U20s World Cup, so he can get the best out of our academy players, and he's meant to be a great coach, so maybe it'll work out here.

Selles was a disaster at Southampton and their fans think he's a joke. But anyone would have failed at Southampton, and his stint as assistant manager in the Russian second tier means he knows what it takes to do well in the lower leagues. Also he's meant to be a great coach, so maybe it'll work out here.

Ad infinitum.

Obviously if/when he gets it, there's nothing we can do about it, so it is what it is, but I'm just tired of making excuses for these mental decisions. And Bowen was supposed to stop that. Maybe our hand are tied with finances and everything happening behind the scenes, but we've gone from the cream of the crop, to bottom of the barrel, surely there's a middle ground.

I'm not making any excuses but a disaster somewhere does not mean anything - Rogers was a disaster here, didn't stop him having a good career - and yes I'm fully aware of the number of appointments who have been shit here and shit elsewhere.

I'm just saying I see the logic of talking to the guy and being involved in winning the Danish league is a bit different than the Russian second division - as with any appointment it could be good, it could be a bin fire - would be the same with Wilder - talk to Boro fans about his spell there esp last year, they couldn't wait to see the back of him but we would all have welcomed him with open arms.

Again, and I stress, he would not be my first choice - at this point, I would go with Cowley unless Warburton fancies it after leaving West Ham but I absolutely see the logic in having the conversation with him and see if both sides fit.

We've gone for the "tried and tested" option and not been able to get it over the line for whatever reason. I think some of us are just looking for reasons how it might work rather than default to the reflex kneejerk "It's going to be shit" reaction.

I don't see a single person saying he's going to be a great manager because, let's be honest, nobody knows.

Right now I'll just be satisfied with someone who comes in with great energy and who talks a good game. Someone who's ambitious and understands the game at this level. If he's expecienced in the Championshio or League 2 I don't care. We can't expect decent proven Manager's to want to come here in the state we're in.

I would use this analogy:

Imagine that you're betting on the Grand National on a year where there are no clear favourites. Maybe the three best horses are non-runners or something. So, now you're look at a number of 25-1+ shots - Some of them have performed well at similar distances, but maybe the ground isn't favourable for them. Maybe some won or placed in shorter races but are untested at this distance. Maybe a couple were excellent a few years back but have had poor form recently. Maybe others have mixed past but also a combination of things going for them (course, jockey, stables) that makes you think they could do well if everything clicks.

Then your partner comes in and tells you that they've put your money on a 66-1 outsider. Whilst not being a joke by any means, it also has almost none of the typical indicators that they would do well in the race. But your partner says they liked the look of the horse in the parade ring.

Selles to me is like betting on the 66-1 horse. Could it win? Sure, it happens. But, you're deliberately turning down the option to bet on better alternatives. And sure, it's all a gamble at the end of the day, but why turn away from the cold hard analysis and logic to go with something for which is little more than a hunch?

This isn’t a bad shout but a bigger issue for me is what players will be willing to sign for us. I certainly wouldn’t join a company where they aren’t paying wages on time. I can’t see who we can attract tbh.

Hopefully the late payment of wages will end soon when we have a new owner

On the plus side, if we go under we don't have to wade through all this shit anymore and can get on with our lives.

The next new candidate for Reading manager is Darren Moore - let go by Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon

Perhaps the club knew lots of managers were still at risk of the sack so have bided their time to appoint?

No chance of getting Moore, he’s more likely to go to Shrewsbury who have a bigger budget for players than us. I am even expecting Selles to turn us down (every cloud…). Who the oxf*rd in their right mind would come to us?

How have you come to this conclusion? Has a track record of being a decent League 1 manager.

Getting Darren Moore in would be far too sensible for Reading FC. He has too much experience and success at this level to be a candidate.
