Contrary to most people, would be happy enough with this appointment

With this being our first season in L1 in 20+ years, and with the big overhaul of the squad - it’s a chance for an up and coming manager to have a crack at it

Not sure how much relevance his 18(?) games at a demoralised, poor Southampton side in an ever increasingly unfair Premier League bears on how well he’ll do here

Very little foundation behind the “experience” argument
anyway IMO. Don’t think you could argue too much that Stam and Bowen have been our most successful managers from when McDermott was sacked the first time around (or certainly two of the better ones). Stam and Bowen vs Adkins, Clarke, McDermott II, Clement, Gomes, Paunovic and Ince. There’s almost a pattern there

Fezza Really well regarded as a coach, I'd almost rather this than Wilder if we're looking to build something. However recruitment is absolutely key with regards to the playing squad. Pace please!

Agree. The manager is important but the players he's got to work with is more so. And yes, we really need some pace in the side in attacking areas.

paultheroyal Wants a project - works a high press - a man manager - swears by fitness.

What's not to like, oh yeah its not Wilder.

But - we are craving a manager, he wants to manage this current shambles, we need to get behind him.

You missed out "is kind to animals".

Yeah it's not WIlder, that's exactly why we're annoyed. We're all Wilder fanboys.

Not at all because it's the same old bullshit from our joke of an owner exactly as I predicted while everyone here was losing their heads over a sensible appointment.

Not because his wanting a project, working a high press, being a man manager and swearing by fitness achieved an 11% win ratio in what has to be one of the worst ever stats for a manager on record.

Of course of course "you never know" and he could be great. But ffs, we said the same abotu every bullshit nobody appointment and every one of them turned out to be bullshit nobodies. Except for Brian and Parj, but at least we knew what they were all about and they were untested.

This guys has been tested and has failed.

But yeah, I have to admit I have a shrine dedicated to Wilder in my house, am infatuated by him and that's the only reason I'm pissed off.

Hate to say it but I pretty much agree with Millsy on this one. Very odd appointment and it feels like a super agent appointment rather than a Bowen appointment and if so will Bowen walk? If that happens we really do need to be concerned as it seems to me as though he is the last beacon of hope for the club. If Bowen goes we could quickly go down a very slippery slope.

Obviously the new bloke might be great but it is a massive risk and such as disappointment after we thought we might just get a proper manager (Wilder) for once rather just another foreigner (Stam, Gomez, Pauno) or failure (Ince, Clement).

Selles was also extremely pro vaccination, made all the Southampton players have it.

Will be yet another "coach" appointment with no proven credentials of building successful teams at any level. No doubt will exposed tactically as all his predecessors were. League One is going to be physical. Not the place to play tippy tappy Europeam style football.

He apparently plays a high press, so like how Barnsley used to play

He left Southampton because they wanted to retain him as a coach but he wanted to be a manager. I get we're playing at a lower level now but Southampton clearly don't see him being a great manager. So why should we?

It's clear that just because he's worked at a few European clubs the owner likes him.

Spotlight keeper would be more fun.

Will be amazed if he lasts the full season. Fans will turn on him within the first couple of months as results will be shite due to a poor team, multiple injuries, etc.

Seen it all before and this just seems a repeat of everything we've seen over the past ten years. A second rate manager which was not our first choice.

I have absolutely no idea why any fans think this is good, or a positive move. It's not.

I'm not sure many think it's a good move.

It's more a reflection that there probably aren't many great candidates who'd want the job.

It's cool to be edgy and appear to go against the bleeding obvious.

Taking their time to confrim it aren't they? Perhaps he doesn't want the gig either.

They're holding out for someone with a 12% win ratio.

You've said it yourself, we're operating at a lower level. What doesn't work for them might work for us. They've just appointed Russell Martin, clearly done for his style of play. Selles doesn't play that way, that might be (one of) the reason(s) as to why they parted ways, alongside Selles' aspirations to be a manager/head coach. The fit of the club matters with a manager alongside their ability.

They'll have probably wanted to keep him as a coach due to his background knowledge of the club, you've got to remember they also brought him there for a reason. They probably just didn't feel he was ready for their job, but that doesn't mean he's not suitable for ours despite our issues.

Of course this will all go out of the window come December-February time when he's under pressure for poor results.

Lol, if he decides not to sign. Not sure what it will mean for us if the manager with the worst ever win ratio doesn’t even want the job.

I’m not happy about his potential appointment but I’ll reserve judgement until I see what team we manage to cobble together and how we are doing after the first 12 games or so.
