I'm just looking for a clear style and patterns of play at the moment - that seems to be coming along nicely - but yes a win would be nice - happy to wait until 5th August though.

Would like a new defence as well please.

No idea! No programme, unnumbered shirts, multitude of subs.

Cracking shot though. Feisty game.

And, as you'd expect, not a mention of the game on the OS, so certainly must have been the u18s or something given the complete lack of coverage!

Can't even find a mention on the Thatcham OS either.

Did anyone on this board actually attend the game (and if they did, did they recognise any of the Reading players)?

Did it actually happen or was it just played by a random someone on FIFA?

Thatcham aren't on FIFA so it must have happened.

Royals and Racers Reading X1 playing at Thatcham on Wednesday evening KO 7.30pm

Thatcham 0 Reading 1
78 min 35 yard free kick

From where I was standing it was more of a goalkeeping error than an amazing goal (I also thought it was from about 25 yards out). The kid struck it well, but the keeper ended up underneath the ball through being too far off his line when the free kick was taken. The same keeper made a quality save in the first half from a free-kick which was going right in the top corner (I think a different player took it). Thatcham hit the post with about five minutes to go following a clearance from a corner.

There were few chances created throughout the game, but the Reading side were much more comfortable on the ball and controlled the game for significantly longer than Thatcham ever did. Thatcham were happy to play direct, while the Reading side were a bit more methodical in their play.

Isn’t 35 yards basically half way between the touch line and half way line? 25 sounds more likely, as does crap keeping. Most free kicks/long range shots look spectacular with poor keeping and I can’t imagine their keeper at that level was up to much.

Still good run out.

I did go and it was definitely U18s (or similar).

Can't say I recognised anyone whilst there, but I haven't been to any youth games recently to know who the players were - didn't help none of the Reading players (except the GK, IIRC) had number anywhere on their kit, not even on the shorts as at Sutton.

Doing a bit of comparison from the images of U18 players on the club's website though: I think the first half keeper was Harrison Rhone, I think Ajani Giscombe played (I think he was the one who got into an altercation with a Thatcham player after a late tackle from him), I think Jacob Borgnis was the captain. I think Abraham Kanu and Aaron White both played. Possibly Jack Timberlake played.

Can't be certain of any of that unless the club puts a report up.

Generally yeah, that sounds about right. I was level with the penalty spot with the goal it went it, so maybe my perspective is a bit different to others: Thatcham has about five/six rows of seats being the highest point of the ground - so distance can become a bit skewed being a pitch level. There was also a free-kick directly after it which was certainly on the edge of the box, which went just wide, so I may be muddling the two. If the club ever put a report up, we'll probably find out it was 30 yards.

I would say that was the only obvious error the Thatcham keeper made last night and it's something you wouldn't expect a professional keeper to make simply because they'll have better training regarding positioning. It's also possible the keeper just misjudged it.

It certainly wasn't a mismatch, so both sides will benefit from it.

I see that the Swansea game is now on Royals TV. Hopefully, work permitting I can get to this one. Otherwise, I’ll be paying my fiver.

Don't spoilers have to be something that isn’t already obvious?

No Smith or Wing which will get the rumours going

Rushesha playing again which is of interest. Guess if this new embargo thing is the case he’d be under 1.5k per week possibly so could still sign him. And Bindon

No other trialists
