Clyde1998 Tickets bought for this one - will be my first game of the season, as I miss Peterborough due to being in Scotland. We don't seem to have sold too many for this...

tidus_mi2 Tempted to try and go to more away games this season but always been apprehensive about travelling alone, not really sure if the experience would be worth it, think travelling with STAR coaches would be the most sensible, does anyone else travel solo that can share their experience?

I travel alone and the coaches are how I do it for most away matches I go to - works out much cheaper than going by train for most matches. Port Vale seems to be just shy of £100 by train (based on searching from Reading to Longport - there may be cheaper ways of going by train), compared to £25 on the coach. IIRC, the most expensive journey is usually £35 (maybe £40) for those in the far north of England (ie. Carlisle this season).
With the coaches, it's very much get to the ground, watch the game, leave - you're not going to spend much time in the town/city before the game (perhaps an hour and a half tops) and no time after it (the coaches leave asap after a match). They drop you off as close to the away end as possible. Depends on the game/town as to whether there's any point in hanging about anyway.
There usually seems to be a decent number of solo travellers on the coaches and, perhaps because of the laws preventing drinking on football buses, the more 'anti-social' crowd don't travel on them.
It really depends on whether you're happy to travel to an away game simply for the football or not. Can't think of a bad experience I've had on the coaches and has certainly allowed me to go to more away matches than I otherwise would've gone to.

Royals and Racers In X1 (Grandson is abroad).
Thought all the cr&p with rail pricing rip-offs was ending.
With a senior railcard to Stoke from Reading return is £60 but i have split to Banbury, Birmingham and then Stoke and saved £20( probably could have saved more by splitting further but couldn`t be bothered.

Isn’t it done automatically with Trainline?

Not as bad as I thought. We took ~600 (IIRC) to Stoke last season, so that's the 'new ground factor' (for many) at play.

New ground and we might actually win an away game for a change
