NathStPaul Do not understand why it is such a bad thing to celebrate victory in this day and age. It was a last minute win against one of their biggest rivals ffs. If you can't be happy about that then when can you be happy?

Yeah, not sure what the angle is on criticising the celebrations, really. More than ever each and every PL game has (okay, maybe not for City) become a pretty titanic effort of fitness and skill in order to win. The players are generally fcuked at the end, and when they win, that's great. By all means celebrate.

Even the infamous Liverpool celebration against WBA came to become a bit of a milestone for them, in the fullness of time.

NathStPaul He is on over a 100k a week too isn't he?

The internet tells me he originally signed a 4 year contract with them in 2015 earning £110,000 basic a week but agreed a new 6 year deal starting in 2019 which took his wages up to £250,000 basic a week

That is right up there with the worst pieces of business in football history.

To be fair United have a rich history of destroying strikers. All the way back to Birtles & Davenport

Some successes on the way

Has no-one mentioned Chris Sutton’s fantastic “there’s a few angry bears in here” comment yet?

Sounds like a real balls up - ref didn't make it clear what was happening, just blew the whistle and walked off.

Hope they were leading last the time, though would imagine the result will be allowed to stand.

Scunny manager said the ref didn't even mention it was an abandoned game until they were down in the tunnel. Just blew his whistle for the end of the game and let everyone walk off

Aren’t they just?

Jeez, not sure I’ve ever seen a goal before where 3 attacking players are in the opposition’s half before a single defender gets there.

Did I imagine seeing a stat last night that Southampton have conceded most, by some distance, in the Champ this season ?
[edit] Yep, they had BEFORE last night.
Now it’s 5 more than anyone else

That Calum Wilson goal disallowed was unbelievable. They even VAR'd it.

I get where you're coming from but I don't think it can be considered a clear and obvious error so VAR's hands are tied somewhat. Awful referring rather than VAR fault imo.

The penalty was harsh imo so one cancelled the other.

Newcastle struggling to impose themselves so far this season. Look a fair way off last season’s form.

Assuming the lines were drawn correctly, the Arsenal effort ruled out correctly, but it still ‘feels’ so wrong that a deflection of that sort results in an offside call

Arsenal haven’t really clicked yet this season - a bit slow in their passing in and around the oppo penalty area, but still picking up the wins.

Super finish by Trossard.

It's looking like this is the season where Everton's luck runs out. They look dire on the pitch, but more generally drained of energy off it too by this regime. Like a bigger, PL version of ourselves as we kept circling the Championship plug hole.

The only thing that may save them is the quality of the promoted teams. Luton and Sheffield United won't survive. Burnley have 0 points but they've had difficult opening fixtures and I expect them to survive. Other candidates like Bournemouth and Wolves seem to have enough to be comfortably clear of the bottom 4.

Dreadful game following another dreadful game of Bournemouth v Chelsea.

I know there are conditions of the TV arrangements for selecting games but I suspect most viewers would be happy just to watch Liverpool, City, Brighton plus a bit of Arsenal and Villa with maybe some Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Barcelona and Real Madrid thrown in now and again.

BTW those first few games this season when players were booked for kicking the ball away, pulling shirts etc are now just history-that hopeless Simon Hooper who always looks to me to be embarrassed at refereeing a game was the epitome of forgetfulness when it came to that game at Everton.
He was suspended the other week after a hopeless display but should be suspended for the whole season IMHO

Talking of referees Kavanagh has been relegated to the Championship and let everything go in the Millwall v Leeds game-fine if all refs did that but ours on Saturday booked about 10 in what was a fairly clean game.
Consistency?

Thought Bournemouth v Chelsea was quite entertaining for a 0-0. Bournemouth impressed me.
